Sunday 27th August at 2pm meeting at the Foyle Valley Railway Museum on Foyle Road.

Hi folks,

Please show your support by attending this inaugural event.

The organisers request all those who bring greyhounds or participate in the walk to adhere to the following:

1. All dogs must be kept on leads.
2. All greyhounds must be muzzled.
3. All 'poop' must be 'scooped'.
4. Please bring your own dish and water for your dog.
5. This in an event where the public will be meeting the dogs that attend, so please only bring dogs that enjoy being petted and fussed over.
6. There will be a video taken of the walk and photos of those who attend. By taking part in the event you are consenting to the footage being shared on social media.
7. Any participant (human or dog) in the stroll will be doing so at their own risk. Please ensure you have the fitness to participate and have no pre-existing conditions which might be exacerbated by taking part.

You do not need to bring a greyhound in order to attend.

There will be a 15 min leisurely stroll towards Letterkenny Road and then 15 mins back again. The walk will be led by a dog wearing the Stroll to GAIN homes jacket and there will be some prizes on the day for hounds that catch the eye of our judge Martin McLaughlin. Fancy dressed hounds welcome.

Looking forward to a great day out.

It was a great day out thank you Monika. Photos and videos are on FB.

The inaugural City of Derry Stroll to GAIN Homes 27/8/17 2pm-4pm

Thank you to everyone who gathered at the Foyle Valley Railway Museum to show their support in promoting greyhounds as pets.

The event was arranged in conjunction with the Irish Retired Greyhound Trust, Destined and the Brandywell Greyhound Racing Supporters Committee.
Sponsors of the event were GAIN dog food, Jollyes Pet Store Buncrana Road, and Micky McLauglin and family who provided most of the refreshments for the day.

The atmosphere was jovial (barring a few who were suffering the effects of watching the early morning McGregor fight), the weather was perfect and the dogs thoroughly enjoyed their stroll which was lead by Michael Feeneys Fuse Wire (Godsend x Keston, Jul 14) who donned the coveted Stroll to GAIN Homes jacket (photo 2).

In addition to members of the public and press who turned up to meet the dogs there were;

47 adults registered for the stroll (including 7 BGRSG committee members)
23 under 18s
38 dogs

A special mention must go to our Event Organisers: Angela McCafferty from Destined and Stephanie English from the BGRSG and its Committee members and all our volunteers which included staff from Destined, first aiders, stewards, admins for registration, route safety/clearance inspectors and our judge.

Our judge Martin McLaughlin picked his favourite hounds of the day as;

1st; Speedy Joe (Ace Hi Rumble x O Garney Pearl, Sep 12) owned by Stephen Radcliffe (received a GAIN jacket and food voucher)

2nd; Hather for Da (Ballymac Maeve x Culmore Gift, Jul 09) owned by Siobhan Duffy (received a GAIN food voucher)

The Greyt Explorations FB competition winners who received rosettes and a Jollyes goodie bag were;

1st; Water Witch (What a Lark x Jakes Lady, Apr 05) presented by Angela McLaughlin

2nd; Skelper owned by Stephanie English

Joint 3rd; Waffles the terrier owned by Karen OReilly and her son Jacob and Hather for Da owned by Siobhan Duffy

Best lookalike greyhound; Susan the lurcher/bull terrier cross owned by John McGuinness

Our volunteers from Destined were Conor, Angela McCafferty, Carmen and Roisin. They were awesome and thoroughly earned the most coveted gifts of the day; cuddly dogs wearing embroidered jackets to mark the special event made and donated by Deirdre Kyle and a Jollyes gift bag. Carmen is photographed holding the Judges favourite greyhound of the event: Speedy Joe.

The event concluded after we all enjoyed a mouth-watering abundance of sandwiches, cakes, sweets, tea and coffee compliments of Micky McLaughlin and his family.

Looking forward to the next Stroll to GAIN Homes event and in the meantime we will continue to promote greyhounds as pets.
