Calling all with retired Greyhounds PART II Germany

German description follows / deutsche Beschreibung im Anschluss

FB Group for German owners from ex-racers who would like to have contact with the previous owners or to owners from brothers, sisters or other family members from their dog.

here the group:
EXTERNAL LINK
I was very surprised and exited how successful this action was this is a very great idea and work!

EXTERNAL LINK
Since a few years, I hold a very friendly and helpful contact to the Irish studbook for German people who give an ex-racer a new home and where the dog isnt in the greyhound-data.

In the most cases, the new owners havent any information about the sire or the bitch or possible siblings from their dog or general information about their dog.

So I complete the pedigree in the greyhound-data when I received the information about this dog (over the ear-marks).

I often hear that these owners have the desire for more information about their dog. Not only the pedigree (this is the theory, but not the real life from this dog).

Mainly the reason for the retirement or how his behaviour was in kenneling/racing.
Perhaps we can make this great endeavour work in Germany too.
A good start was if German owners posted a picture of the dog, the name and perhaps that will encourage previous owners to tell something

I know it will take a long time for this idea to become established but I want to try it.
Help is welcome!

I contacted Lilly and complimented her on her great work in Australia. I informed her that we would like to continue this work in Germany.

Please share this group and give me/us some Information! Thank you very much and have a nice day!

......

Hilfe ist also Willkommen!

Teilt die Gruppe und meldet euch! Habt vielen Dank und ich wnsche euch einen schnen Tag.

Thanks a lot Tony for the great conversation we've had and your support for our project. We wish to meet the expectations and will work to the best of our ability to make it a success. We are looking forward to seeing many past and current owners contributing.
It may take some time to see results... but it's been a promising start so far.

The group is not even a month in existence.
As of today, we have 228 members, 115 posts from adopters seeking information about their dogs' past or relatives and 6 former owners trying to find out the whereabouts of their adopted dogs.

16 searches ended successfully, either with general information, establishing contacts and/or exchange of pictures.
A lot of these posts were quite emotional with current owners seeing pictures of their beloved dogs as puppies or former owners finally knowing that their darlings enjoy retirement.

Many people have been helping, doing research and we are hoping that many more will join us and contribute to the success of the group.

The team:
Michaela Mller, Group Founder
Caroline Lhr and Betty Mrtz doing translations and talking to our British and Irish friends when things get a little bit complicated.
Gabriele Wiebeking and Regina Geier using their connections to greyhound rescue organisations to find adopters.

Last but not least Lynda Bonner who contacted countless people from the Irish racing scene, invited them to the group, asked for information about certain dogs and promoted our cause wherever she could.

Special thanks to the adopters, racing owners and breeders who are willing to enter new territory, meet new people and share their side of the great experience which is sharing your life with a greyhound.

All credit to the organisers of this Group. Your approach is professional and determined.

There are a lot of greyhounds that still need to have their roots traced so hopefully more folk from Ireland will join the Group. Interestingly it has stimulated those folk in Ireland who have rehomed their greyhounds to Germany to get in touch too. It really is wonderful to follow the progress of some of these stories.

Thank you for leading this initiative.

Thank you folks,

We have found Messan Dova - Bluie living the life of luxury with his family near Berlin Germany so pleased to get great photos. Blu left is in June 2012 had an overnight stay with Hannah of cottage rescue where he waken her very early singing! Then he was with a foster home before going to his new family. He was supposed to teach Oskar how to behave but I think Oskar may have had to teach blu instead, as he was a total beautiful, big rascal!

Thank you again for putting me in touch with his new family now I will send them photos of blu when he was with us.

We are already a few days at the start - have also been able to locate a few previous owners.
At the moment it is unfortunately very quiet. But it would be so nice if we could find some breeders or previous owners here.
Have a look if one of your former dogs is with us.
These are the litters that are currently in the photo album section. This list will be updated regularly. In alphabetical order sire / dame.

Thank you for your support.

As you all have noticed, we didn't make much progress in our searches for previous owners after the initial quick successes.
First of all, it's important to understand that the first results were solely based on Lynda Bonner's private connections to many racing people and on her amazing effort to convince people to support our cause.
After her personal connections ran out, she had to search for every single dog on our list individually i.e. talking to the track to get contact information, talking to sometimes retired racing owners on the phone. This task became almost impossible for one person to tackle.
However, there was no other way to do it while keeping to a reasonable standard of protecting the privacy of old and new owners.
We can't express our gratitude for her dedicated work that encouraged us to carry collecting requests and believe in the good that could come out of our idea.
Very soon we tried to find a way to take the burden from her shoulders and find a way to decrease her workload.
Now we can inform you that the Irish Studbook has agreed to support us, not only with individual dogs but for the whole list. We would like to thank them for their support.
As you could see with the recent development, they have the resources to contact previous owners through their database much faster. Racing owners are given my email address to reply to when they are interested in contact and/or exchange of information.
This ensures discrete handling of personal data.
We have already received a couple of positive replies and more are expected to come in.
Dear previous owners, we are grateful for your willingness to support our project and hope the heartwarming success stories will motivate more to join in.
To a future where previous and current owners of greyhounds can learn from each other and developed a fruitful understanding that can only profit our beloved hounds.

Thank you very much
Michaela
