A friendly piece of advice from a retired professional lobbyist in state level politics (not Florida). If you want to save commercial greyhound racing in Florida, you better pay more attention to convincing your fellow Florida voters instead of wasting your anger and vitriol at me.

As of today, the constitutional question is on the November ballot - says the Florida Supreme Court.

Your dog may be in this fight, but mine ainít. Given your knack for attacking people and making enemies out of people who otherwise might be your supporters - youíre headed for oblivion. Take that to heart and work hard between now and election day, and maybe youíll pull out of your tailspin. Good luck.

Looks like she's smashed her bat and gone home......mwahahahhaaaa ...what do you reckon Mick? mwahahahahaaa

2 differing takes as would be expected.....always wary of antis use of words like education...Ö the usual humanization of animals Ö.and these non human citizens don't have a vote in their future occupation hmmmph

Kate MacFall of the Humane Society of the United States says supporters of Amendment 13 plan to spend the next two months educating voters.

"Because this industry and this practice is so unpopular, no one goes anymore. It's a loss leader financially. It's not on the top of everyone's minds, like it is on ours. Certainly, there is some outreach, and we are working very hard on educating Florida voters that this is a reality," said MacFall.

Opponents of the proposal, including Florida Greyhound Association lobbyist Jack Cory, say passage of the amendment will have a negative economic impact on the state.

"It is not going to stop greyhound racing. What it's going to do is stop live greyhound racing in the state of Florida. It'll cost the state of Florida over $80 million a year in live betting on live greyhound racing, another $200 million at greyhound tracks, 3,000 jobs, and put 8,000 beautiful greyhounds at risk. It's a bad proposal."

I think her pretense to be neutral is about as false as her profile was about a week ago.
Funny how it has now changed.

Someone over here named her Kate McFail.

I like this.

Kate MacFall of the Humane Society of the United States says supporters of Amendment 13 plan to spend the next two months educating voters.

How can you educate people about the the truth when you don't know it?
These people have never been inside a racing kennel yet they are the authorities on everything greyhound.

You know what? Iíve visited racing kennels. I enjioy watching greyhounds race at tracks. Iíve attended frequently in Florida and when there was racing in Wisconsin, and have bet on races. Iíve never personally seen dogs mistreated in commercial racing and have no reason to suspect that to be a problem, except in the rarest of individual instances. I am perfectly happy if Florida greyhound racing survives, but that doesnít look likely. I believe that greyhounds as individual dogs and as a breed in the U.S. will not be the better of it if racing ends in Florida.

But greyhound racing is not a charity. As a business, itís a longtime money loser and thatís the reason that half the U.S. tracks have gone out of business in the last two decades. At best, itís a marginal indiustry in Florida.

Yet you guys canít accept financial reality. You canít control your rage and frustration when somebody speaks basic truths to you, so you seek to make scapegoats and lash out at them. Now you fall back on name-calling because you have nothing else to argue.

See you on on November 7 - the day after the Florida election. As the Florida greyhound industry bails out and gets rid of its dogs, there will be thousands of adoption volunteers across the country working to rehome the greyhiounds that will become surplus. For those few unscrupulous people tempted to put a bolt gun to their dogsí heads, please donít. We volunteers will do our best to take everyoneís dogs off their hands and find them good forever homes.

The problem is you don't know the real Florida handle. The real Florida handle for Florida for fiscal year 2017-2018 is over $525,000,000 dollars.

If the tracks are losing money on greyhound racing why are all St. Pete., Jacksonville and Palm Beach along with Daytona and Sanford Orlando with the vote NO on question 13 side? Wouldn't they want to get rid of their losing proposition?

On one hand it is "I'm one of you guys" and on the other it is "See you in the dirt".

Hope the election is a success for the racing Grey and the trickeration donation scammers get booted to where they belong...oblivion.

BTW, Wayno, you seem confused.
This is a PRO racing website so anti racing views are not welcome.
There are sites you can go that welcome debate and sites that are purely anti.
You need to go there, not here.
You have views and that is fair enough but they are misplaced here.

However, when one tries to use deception as a tool to troll, you need to be torched.

Some less upbeat information just hit the Greyhound Alliance site - the official home page for getting the dogs out of Dairyland. EXTERNAL LINK There is a blog from Linda Cliffel on the site EXTERNAL LINK that tries to present a more optimistic and realistic view of what is happening at the track, but time will tell.
NGA responds with the following statement "www.ngagreyhounds.com/newsstories.asp?Date=12/15/2009&title=AGTOA, AGC to provide assistance" (this link won't work so cut & paste into your browser all content withing the quotes)
For now we are using this dog list as our official source and trying to drum up fosters for this weekend haul. It is tough to do so close before the holidays - but the number of dogs leaving and moved so far is encouraging. We hope the momentum continues.

Monique, the panic and misinformation being posted on the Greyhound Alliance website is more than deplorable - it's mean-spirited and irresponsible. Given the crap they've been circulating, there's no way that this group can claim the standing to post as the "official home page" for adoptions related to the Dairyland closing.

Much more complete and accurate is the story appearing in today's (Dec. 15) Chicago Tribune. To see it, copy and paste into your browser all the text that appears between the quotes:

The story quotes Kari Swanson of Midwest Greyhound Adoption. I know Kari well, and no one has more experience over many years of working directly and productively with the Wisconsin tracks. Star came to our home in 2002 from a Wisconsin track via Midwest Greyhound, after Kari took care all of the details of the surgical repair of Star's right hock. Ithad been fractured in multiple places. Nobody, and I mean nobody, knows more than Kari about the post-surgical care for broken legs. And on all counts, when Kari tells you something about the adoption situation in Wisconsin, you can take it to the bank.

That's unlike some alarmists and bullshit artists at Greyhound Alliance who are being allowed to post to their web pages. They don't have a clue. They need someone with a heavy boot to kick their asses up around their ears. They should shut up and get to work, because there's work to do, not pouty finger-pointing and not playing of self-serving blame games.

BTW, check out the comments from greyhound owners following the Tribune story. There are a lot of good adoption vibes out in the community!

Jim,

No on a governor's wife, but yes on the ill informed. G2K and the HSUS supply the lies and they people that don't want to find out the truth become the ill informed voters.

We fight everyday to get the truth out and we are having some impact.

Dick

I'm glad M8 you know what almost happened here in NSW ? It was good people power that overturned the self proclaimed messiahs ,read premier, edict that greyhound racing was evil and will be banned.

He underestimated the passion, the numbers, the tenacity(grrrrrrr type) social impact ,economic impact but most importantly ;where pollies are concerned; political implications and lost a blue ribbon SAFE seat to The Hunters Fishers and Farmers Party who are staunchly pro greyhound and true earth based focused humans.

When it's all said and done the money is one thing but it runs way behind most motivating forces where people and hounds come together.

What motivates the antis I see is them being educated by spin merchants ,them, trying to further themselves either financially or politically Ö...the further society retreats from the natural world the more guilt felt is assuaged by having a cause

i.e. I'm a good person I banned the cruel sport of greyhound racing.

These MF's should get the evil #*^%!@# that fight dogs , help homeless people (I said it people) make sure their neighbours aren't in need if they need a cause and leave bloody greyhound people to their own devices.

Unscrupulous people will race dogs "underground" in swamps etc and what a bloody nightmare that would be. Kennel inspections hahahaha drug testing hahahaha vet inspection before EVERY race hahahaha and ad infinitum.

I have no time for ignorant antis and their cling on rent a crowds..all part time anarchists when it suits and angels ,so easily offended, the rest.

It is so good these people can be given the good oil on GD

Keep up the good work those who are responsible for Greyhound Data I do thank you all.

Racing greyhounds is many of OUR Greyhound families birthright.

Well said, Jim! As a former cruelty investigator, I have so many suggestions for the antis: never mind racing greyhounds that are kept in clean kennels, are well fed and well loved - instead, go and rescue the dogs that are chained in their backyards, 365 days a year in heat and cold, often without shelter, food or water; rescue the dogs from the dog fighting rings; rescue the dogs from the puppy mills - get them out of the crates through which their toes have grown so they can't even move; rescue the brood bitch with the festering neck wound from her ingrown collar...I don't want to go on, I've been there, done that.

Of course, Antis, there won't be executive salaries and trips around the world for you, instead, there will be owners who come after you with butcher knives, there will be death threats, not only to you but even to your own dogs, I've been there and had that happen to me - ah, now THAT'S a different story, isn't it?

And because I know what REAL "cruelty to animals" is, I am proud to support greyhound racing.

Well said to both Ilse and Jim.

Jim, as someone that almost always wears a t-shirt with a greyhound on it I try to remember when being approached by an anti is there are two kinks of antis. One is the die-hard everything is is wrong with racing and I don't waste my time with them. The second is the anti that has never heard the our side. If the second kind wants to listen I have a chance to change his or her opinion or at least make him or her want to do some research.

That is all I ever ask is find out for yourself because I'm not afraid of the truth, the antis are.
