In July 2018 I founded an FB group to bring Greyhound Adoptants and previous owners / trainers / breeders into contact. I have already written about our project here. EXTERNAL LINK I find its very important that adopters learn something about their greyhounds past. There are still many adopters who are not interested in the past living of their greyhounds because they believe that their greyhounds have not been kept well, or that the past is not important. But there is a small group of greyhound adopters who are open to the past of their dogs. Who would like to know why her Greyhound retired. What he liked, what he didnt like. Who would be happy about a message from the previous owner / trainer / breeder. Since the founding of the group, we have already been able to produce more than 50 contacts. A great help from the beginning are the many contacts of Lynda Bonner. Thanks a lot Lynda! We also asked the Irish Studbook to inform the registered owners from the greyhounds in our "open search" list. That also led to some successes. Thank you so much to the ICC! However, we are still looking for over 80 greyhounds the previous owners / trainers or breeders. Please look in our list. Maybe you know the dog, the previous owner / trainer or breeder. We respect the privacy. Each contact recording is only about me. If both sides agree with the contact, the contact details will be handed over. In the difficult situation of the Irish racing industry, it is a vote of confidence and a belief in the good Irish racing people that German adopters seek contact with the previous owner/trainer/breeder. We would all be very grateful if we could establish more contacts between adopters and previous owners / trainers / breeders. As this post is from 2019 it may be worth reopen it as loads of hounds found their retirement home in Germany and other countries since.
What I learned is that adoptants indeed try to find something out about their retired Greyhound but often they only have the ear tattoos and no racing name (please note that pet passports often only include the pet name and often a wrong date of birth; racing books and microchip certs are not always handed out to the adoptants but held back by some people involved in rehoming) so directly fail in their research as most of them don't know whom to ask or don't speak English.
Greyhound-data has a perfect function in finding hounds by typing in the tattoos - but of course the corresponding fields need to be filled in order to get a result. Unfortunaltey only few tattoos are on data so if you want us to add the tattoos to the hounds profiles we are happy to support. Just post it here or send a PM.
