We brought our new boy Barney home today & I've just looked up his ear tattoos - they weren't very clear but I think it reads YD-PEI, this brings up the pedigree for "Top For Sure". It's the right age and colour but I'm a bit confused because the page shows a Mrs C Trinder as the owner. Does anyone know if this is just old info or have I got the wrong ear markings? I want to put photos of Barney up but I wouldn't like to upset anyone by putting pics on the wrong dog!!
Any advice would be much appreciated - Thanks..

Hi Joanne,

sounds like Top For Sure really is your dog.
The breeder and old owners details will be still on the database.Feel free to update them.
:>) If the dog is same colour and age..i think you have the right dog.

Thanks for that Leanne, I thought I'd better check first - I don't suppose anybody out there knows anything about him other than what is already on the GD site? The lovely people at GRWE said they thought he'd raced at Newton Abbott but the database says Oxford (another reason I was unsure) I'd just like to know a bit more about his background. I will put some piccies up soon but so far the only ones we have are of him sleeping!! Its been a long day for him but he seems happy so far...

Looking at his stats he was disqualified from racing for fighting last time out, wasnt a bad runner either by the looks of things..But i think this can mean anything like just turning his head or palyful nipping.Im sure the experts will be along to tell you more.
Sure your going have many a happy years ahead...cant wait for pics!

Hi Joanne,

If you are not sure about the tattoos, try putting a flashlight behind the ear.It makes them easier to read.

Joanne, you could also phone NGRC (020 7267 9256)who will be happy to help you.
You already know the colour, sex and eye colour. You could measure his shoulder height girth and length of tail (underneath measurement).
Along with his markings and what you know of his tattoos it's a sure bet they'll ID him for you. If he has an ID book (they're computerised now)they will send you a photocopy of it for a fiver. They no longer give originals. If you know his registered name the confirmation of that ID will takes seconds over the phone.

Also of course, if you get his book you'll then know all his races and if you want you can get vids of his races from Vincent Vids.

Joanne, if you think he may have raced at Newton Abbott try e mailing the track with his info. I did that with Perry Barr and his trainer gave me info about his racing past and what he'd got up to. good luck. xxxx

Top For Sure was trained by Angie Kibble at Oxford. Mr and Mrs Trinder have owned a lot of dogs with Angie over the years.

Helen, Vincent Video are responsible for an awful lot of the track video and they basically record entire meetings (often including trials). Those vids are then available for purchase by anyone who wants them. Either individual races or entire meeting. Owners often leave their previously purchased tapes with Vincents who are (or were!) always at the meetings. They will then just keep adding new races to your tape.
If you know the date and time of a race, they will put them all on a video tape or dvd for you. Vincents aren't responsible for all uk track vids but certainly most if not all in the south of england. Other tracks usually have someone who does the same.

While on the subject of such things, pics are often available for the 'better' performers. For eg if your dog won a trophy then the chances are that a decent photo of the presentation will be available. (Some mug somwhere has even got a photo of me presenting a trophy at Wimblydon!) At Wimbledon the photographer was Brian Poole who may still be there. Got his phone number somewhere but the stadium will have it. Seem to remember he lives in Worcester Park nr New Malden Surrey. He also lurks at other tracks so you may be lucky with him. Then of course you have the likes of Steve Nash. Thing is he doesn't really tend to photo the average grader.

I think Vincents archives go back to about the late 80's though I stand to be corrected. Obviously newer races will be of better quality. New technology an all that stuff.

Best of luck with your hunt Helen. If no joy let me know. I seem to be turning into quite a detective lately.

Oh thanks Alan. I tried the stadium (Perry Barr) and they had nothing on him GATE BLUE. He was fairly good as a racer but only raced there after coming to England. I've contacted Steve Nash and he has nothing so I appreciate your help. I'll try the link. Many thanks. xxxxx

hi joanne
barney looks really cute - very furry. well done you. my girl has the same grandfather as your barney (head honcho). my girl is also black, but she has white markings. barney doesn't look like he has any white markings?

helen, i bought my girl's races from vincent videos. it is really nice to have her races, my husband and i watched them a dozen times in the first week! we BEAM with pride watching her win and placed on that podium thingy, and wish we were there to FUSS her like crazy and KISS her and tell her what a SUPERSTAR she had been. nevermind, she gets them now. remember to tell vincent videos that you are an adopter, they have special reduced rates for adopters buying the videos of their rescued ex-racers. i think it is an excellent service. pity my boy has no recorded races, we would dearly love to see his too.

Janice, I've e mailed Vincent's vids and I am REALLY hoping he's got some footage of Monty. I don't know if they filmed as far up as Birmingham though. Here's hoping.

I bet it's lovely to see your girlie winning her races xxxxxx

Helen I'm sifting through mounds of old paper to find out who does/ did the vids oop norf. If, and it is a big if I can find out I'll let you know. In the mean time good luck with vincent. They are very helpful usually. Never dealt with them on line, only at the stadium where they are individually quite knowledgable, often remembering dogs from way back.
