Aside from the cruelty involved, that's job negligence resulting in the destruction of costly police assets. By any professional standard, it's stupidity and incompetence of the highest order. At the very least, make those responsible dig the graves in front of the news cameras and personally bury the poor beasts. Then fire the SOBs.

As to criminal prosecution, however, that's more iffy unless deliberate intent can be established. The following related story explores that issue. A word of caution, though - it's horrifying.

In addition, vehicles that transport police dogs should be equipped with air conditioning, even in a temperate seasonal climate like England's. SOP in the U.S. is for canine units to leave the vehicle running with A/C on if the officer has to leave the dogs inside even for a short time.

Somehow i don't think this country would pay out money to have air conditioned vans for the dogs, the goverment would rather keep the money and spend it on important things like Houses for their ducks and other useless things.

I saw this report yesterday Gina and didn't put the link up as I knew it would upset you so soon after losing your Finbar. It's such a waste of life - they are a fantastic breed of dog.

All police dog vans are air conditioned. The dogs that died were left in a private vehicle.

Why they were left is a question that will be investigated, but have no doubt the matter will not be "swept under the carpet". It was in fact the police who informed the RSPCA of the deaths.

Thanks, John - at least that's good to know.

I got to Kilnhurst on business a couple times many years ago - right in your neck of the woods. As I recall there was a small Dexion plant along Wharf Road. Looks like it might be long gone now. That sound familiar?

I hope they do get prosecuted for causing these two dogs to suffer like they did.I did not know all vans were air conditioned.Makes you wonder why they were left in a private car.
I shall be very surprised if they do get prosecuted, the idiot who left that poor greyhound to starve to death seems to have got away with it.

I understand how you feel, Kathleen, but if they convicted all the stupid and absent-minded people in the world, there wouldn't be enough jails to hold them nor enough guards to watch them!

I know this is incident occurred in England but I would like to know why anyone let alone the police would let the RSPCA investigate anything,it is my experience, that most of their reports seem to lack truth and factual evidence.
In Australia they are a private organization is this the case in England and if so why should they have any powers.
The article posted also appeared to have a distinct lack of detail, with no author listed.
I wonder whether the uncommon high tempretures in the UK may have been an unusual contributing factor?
I do agree the incident should be thoroughly investigated and any negligence appropriately dealt with.

It probably didn't help, although a Stanford University study a few years ago indicated that direct sunlight can create lethal temperatures inside a car in a very short time, even during moderate temperatures outside. Another study by the Louisiana State Medical Society Indicated that light-colored cars get almost as hot as darker ones. And both studies found that cracking the car windows hardly helps at all.

Sadly so, but I say a short prayer daily thanking God that I did not kill, injure or maim myself or anyone else due to a stupid mistake during that day.

Yes Wayne i agree you cannot put everyone in prison who acts so stupidly, the best punishment for this idiot would be the sack from the force and one big hefty fine. That would make him think twice about being so stupid again.
