I spent years helping out others and dogs from rescues etc. When I try to get help with a dog here who needs help I get a kick in the teeth.
I spent the whole day yesterday trying to get help and financial support for a very poorly staff who has pyometra. I spent 50.00 for the antibiotic given and thats all the money I have to my name. I now have none left. This vet wanted to spey her and keep her in and put on drips. 500pounds she wanted so I asked round everywhere. Blue x, RSPCA etc. I CANNOT HAVE HER SPEYED OR TREATED NEAR WHERE I LIVE. I have to take her accross London on the tube train and the busses (if they allowed her on the bus) which if you had that op you do not want to have that type of journey when poorly.
Shes a very friendly and adorable girl who gets on with animals and people. I just don't know what else to do.
I'm so disgusted that now I need help I cannot get it. NOT near my home :(

Cheryl - Where did you get this dog from?

I think you need to call the RSPCA/Battersea....You can get a contact telephone no off the internet....Or maybe try Staff Rescue as theres a lot of them who may be able to help.

I think the best thing for you & the dog is for you to surrender her to a rescue who can give her adequate treatment & find her a loving home. Its unfair on you both for you to take her on if you are unable to care for her with limited funds.

without sounding cruel, and beleive me im not that sort of person, this is a typical situation that many find themselves in.
sometimes the love of an animal overwhelms our better judgement.

this type of situation causes so much stress on the owner/s it blinds there visions of whats best for the animal, and certainly the person/s.

the costs of vets nowadays is so 'over the top' people have no choice but to put the animal to rest...its a decision that hurts and does terrible psychological feelings for the person.

but whats the best thing for us to do?
if there is no money coming in to support even yourself, why have an animal? obvious answer, but in some situations not the right answer....you are best not having any animals.

we had an incident here in australia (victoria) where a guy virtually 'murdered' his eight cats because he was sick of the complaints by neighbours...so he drowned all eight, but more inhumanely, decided to clobber them to death to ensure they were dead.

cruel? you betcha (he got off) but you have to ask how did it get to this stage where he snaps and takes such drastic actions.
to many times situations like this occur...is it because people really are animal haters or are they driven to such drastic decisions because of costs and no help or support?

the do gooders will victimise the poor buggers who love there animals but just cant afford to rectify any problems,so they destroy the animals or let them suffer unecassarily.

so whilst i feel for people like cheryl, i still say there is no sense in making judgements that cruely place an animal in situations like this...do the humane thing and place in a better situation or have the animal removed from yourself or even worse, put to rest.

dont let situations like this happen. we know whether we can support these great friends or not....would you do it to a child?
sometimes the hardest decisions are for the better.

i do wish you well cheryl, but i wish the animal a better situation and hopefully others see where im coming from.

Daryl, I've followed Cheryl's posts for quite a while and know how much she treasures her animals. But I also have to agree with you that we have to do what's best for the animal's sake, and that includes when our circumstances change through no fault of our own, and the care of the animal then comes into jeopardy. You've said it all about as well and tactfully as can be said. Let's hope for a good and compassionate outcome for Cheryl's dog.

Many thanks for all the advice It meant a hell of a lot to me and yep I need to re think the situations here.

She had the op on Tuesday. I collected her yesterday after spending the night on drips. She was full of the puss stuff.
She's such a sweetie this girl is after she been through. The greyhounds were sleeping with her and keeping her warm. They do know don't they when one of their kind have been ill? :)
Many thanks to Celia who help arranged this for Milly.
Robynne,
I send you an email later after things have settled.
Thanks again
