We are very happy to announce that on June 19th, 28 Irish greyhounds joint their forever families in Italy. Humans were touched by the gentle nature of these lucky hounds, everyone did the best to spoil them with care and affection .

PAWS , Gina and her staff

RGT Alma & Muriel Carroll

IGB for the transport contribution and for the general support

Ben McBride & Brendan Rogers our best driver

Our friends from the Slovenian Association SASIN

Vet. Scianti from the Clinica Estense in Modena for having checked our dogs and looked after them all day long

Posh&Chic Greyhound for the technical and fashionable stuff

We thank those trainers who provided to neuter, vaccinate their dogs and keep them in a great shape until the departure.

Our adopters, we couldn't do our job without them

Our home checkers and our wonderful team

Cause of the hot Italian temperature we stop the transport , we look to be back next September with our adoption program and the usual great collaboration with all the good people involved.

The picture galleries will be online soon.

Thank you

Fantastic news and a big well done to EVERYONE connected with the rehoming programme. What a great place to spend the rest of their days - 28 very lucky hounds. Keep up the good work.

They are trying Douglas, but they may have to stop rehoming from Ireland, which will be a great loss. IGB are causing complications which will affect future transports to all european countries.

Let's hope the ' complications ' can be sorted out and that the rehomings can continue Gina. I have watched many of the video clips that are posted and you can see how much joy these dogs bring to people and how happy the dogs themselves look when they arrive in their new country. For the sake of the dogs it's surely best that the rehoming programme remains in place.

Gina,

What complications are IGB causing? I was hoping to rehome a couple at the end of the year. Do you think the rehoming programme will be stopped?

This will get its own topic. but the short version. IGB has told GACI that:

A: They are reducing the transport donation to 75 per dog, from 100.
At the moment, the transport costs 5,500 regardless of how many dogs are on board. GACI normally take 28 dogs at a time.

IGB pay 28 x 100 = 2800. GACI have to pay the balance of 2700.

Under the new system IGB will pay 2100 which will leave GACI trying to raise 3400.

Gaci are a voluntary group of people that do their work at their own expense. They cannot possibly afford this.

B. PAWS began working with GACI pre 2005. They rehome approx 200 greyhounds a year in amazing homes. As a gesture, they have taken some dogs of late, from IGB's kennels in Limerick. They have now been told that they MUST take 50% of the dogs from Limerick for ANY transport funding to continue. This will mean that PAWS can only rehouse HALF of the dogs they currently do and GACI will be unable to deal direct with owners and trainers as they have always done in the past.

I may also add that PAWS funding has been cut by 1000 per month. This means that ALL dogs will have to be neutered before they come to PAWS.Some people will not do this, so dogs will die.

The above directives, which take effect immediately, will cost Greyhound lives. It will take welfare back about 3 years. It will also most likely mean that GACI will be unable to afford to rehome dogs for Irish owners and trainers.

Take a look at EXTERNAL LINK and see what WE ALL will miss out on.

I may add that the financial directive also applies to the CZECH group, who are totally peniless.

All people should ask this question and claim a documented answer.
