Hi all,

I often receive emails from people who have adopted greyhounds from the Greyhound Adoption Program. I thought I might start posting some of them here, just to show that the dogs do deserve a home after racing, and to show the sort of homes they go to :-).

So, here is an email received today from the new owners of Sam (aka Batnap), adopted yesterday:

Hi Larissa,

Darin and I picked up Sam for adoption yesterday at Broadmeadows and we can honestly say it was love at first sight. He is absolutely perfect for our family. He was very settled on the way home and stopped in to a local shop to buy him a new waterproof fleecy jacket and some treats and food and he was brilliant. His tail wagged the whole time as people patted him and walked by with their dogs. He didn't budge.

By the time he got to sniff the house, it was time to get the children, eat and go to footy training with my son. He puddled along with us, in and out of the car, stopping for a rub and a pat and a walk around. He was extremely well behaved during dinner, only spectating from a distance but very keen when it was his turn. He LOVES his squeaky teddy and knows his coat already as he got yet another short walk last night then again this morning.

We feel like he has been with us forever already. He was very peaceful overnight and took himself off to his night bed at 9pm, staying calm and dry until 6am this morning. His ears are up when we are around and not too phased by our comings and goings. We are checking for signs of anxiety.

Thankyou for matching us with Sam. We adore him and his cheeky playful side that he has let us see. All of us feel very settled already and very happy that he has completed our family.

from Laura, Darin, Lachlan, Jade and Sam(my) Davis

How many people would not want them to "deserve a home".Considering the number and the number of your placements.Do you think us "greyhound people" do not understand the problems associated with dogs after a retirement[for various reasons] or racing career.?I take your comments as a personal insult.I also think that the rest of your topic is fantastic letting us know the love that some dogs are gaining.Maybe I did not interpret your comments correctly.

Roger, I'm actually one of you "greyhound people" and breed and race dogs myself.

Sadly there are still people in the industry who don't think that greyhounds make good pets.

Rambo was adopted just last week :-). A great little dog who was fine living with cats.
