The Greyhound Adoption Program (Victoria) received this email today from the owner of Basil (was Beaver). We thought his connections might like to hear how much he was loved.

Hello,

I just wanted to write to say thank-you for providing us with such a beautiful greyhound who has brought us so much joy over the years. My name is Rachael and his name was Basil (racing name Circus Envy, GAP name Beaver).

We adopted Basil from GAP roughly six years ago as a 3 year old when we were living in Warrnambool. He lived with us there then made the move with us to Geelong 5 years ago and has been an important member of our household. He has enjoyed the company of 3 cats during his time with us, one of which will miss him terribly. He endured the birth of 2 children and the ultimate reduction in attention that brings. He loved his walks, wanting to go daily and when in full health managed to go for 40mins every day (although it took us a while to train him up for that!).

Unfortunately in early December last year he was diagnosed with osteosarcoma in his forelimb - we elected to go for amputation and chemo and he continued to have a good quality of life up until the last week or so. Yesterday we made the heartbreaking decision to euthanase him and I already miss him terribly.

He was a very sweet and loving dog.

Tomorrow he will be buried next to my last dog, another greyhound who has been gone for almost 20 years.

Thank-you for providing us with just the sweetest, sweetest dog. I will love him forever.

Rachael
