Hi Penelope I also have several dual registered greyhounds ( and a couple of show bred ones) It is true that 99% of the time the show one will beat the race one. It is easy enough to re-register them with your state body although there is a bit of running around involved. In NSW you need a 5 gen pedigree from Greyhounds Australasia, and a few other bits of paperwork from your state's controlling body. If you want to email me [email protected] I can tell you the whole process. It is harder to register an unnamed pup as you need an ANKC registered prefix but can be done. I have EXTERNAL LINK who is the first and only race bred grey to get her Grand Champion, also winning a RUBIS along the way. I am currently showing a couple of her pups including EXTERNAL LINK who is currently the #1 greyhound puppy in Aust.
One would think you were proud of Hunter, Claire :-)
If you want to see more Racing greyhounds shown at Crufts, look up Fosse Data and you can see the results back to 2000. I think the prize that Barton Alex won was 3rd. Isle of Skye also did well also winning RGT Greyhound of the Year under Keith Thornton, who is a well known Championship Show Judge of Hounds. Besides the dogs mentioned here there are several other interesting ones. Just a few are. Julie Sadler`s Treaty Society, this bitch competed from 2004 - 2010, and was placed many times. Smiffys Ghost, by Blue Murlen, a winner in 2004/05/06. Plus Joe The Giant, possibly named this as he weighs 106 lbs. This dog was bred by Shelbourne Stud, by Shanless Park ex Queen Survivor.
I think Claire Needham`s bitch quite beautiful and she must be very proud of Hunter. Penelope asked what is the biggest problem showing greyhounds. I would say this is obviously the diverseness in type between the show and racing dog. Remember though, all the sighthound breeds are very little changed from their ancestors in comparison with other dog breeds.
Great news Claire, good luck @ the EKKA. How are the rest of the litter doing?
Thanks Chris. They are all going great. Nina and Lulu are also going to EKKA, along with Skadi. Minni and Cruz will be staying at home. They are lovely but the others are better as show dogs and travelling with 6 greys will be quite enough without taking the other 2 as well. It will be Nina's first show (think Im mad) and Lulu hasnt been out since she was a baby so Im going to have my hands very full. Cant wait till they are old enough to break in and see what they can do

Com Lopresto used to race & show his dogs in SA years ago, not sure if he is still involved.
Good luck Claire I don't envy you taking that many to a big show, but I'm sure the team will do well.
Unfortunately my husband is in hospital and will still be then so I wont have anyone. Paul May is the official photographer for EKKA (website Mayphoto) but I dont know if he does pics during sweeps or just the winners Hopefully there will be someone ringside to take pics.
