Good story Sandro, but the comment from a reader at the end of the article is pretty rough on the industry

The comment was terrible and written by someone living in America. I put my 'two bobs worth' in regarding her comment (just waiting for my comment to be moderated before it is published)

No Knowledge of why dogs have muzzels.Any one who has walked 2/4 dogs together will know the re action if they see a cat can have a crack at each other. may slip the collar in inexperienced hands. Also who would take the risk of a dog picking uo something on the ground.May be the good judge can put antis in jail .LOL

Good on you Christine.
This WILL bring new owners for dogs that have finished racing so if he cares about the dogs themselves cant he see that this is a good thing?
I gave a dog away on the weekend - I was really lucky as a similar story ran in the local paper that day , I got heaps of calls from people , even some that said listen we dont want one yet but we want to know more about them - its fantastic this new green collar idea.

Val Wolf is one of those crackpots who reply to any and every story about greyhound racing - there was a story on the Mudgee Guardian website about the dogs being closed down - who pops up with a post but Val Wolf:
Greyhound racing is cruel and inhumane. The greyhounds live in confined, sometimes squalid conditions, and when let out to race, they suffer and die from injuries such as broken limbs, broken necks, paralysis, and cardiac arrest. The greyhounds are short-term investments, valued only as long as they generate a profit for their owners.Their post-racing fate falls to volunteer adoption groups that work tirelessly to adopt retired greyhounds into loving homes. A few will be adopted, many more will be killed. What a shameful industry.
Someone else did have a go back at her:
Val Wolf, you need to do better things with your time than type into google 'greyhound stories' and give your useless two cents worth about how cruel greyhound racing is. Pigeion racing is cruel but you don't hear Big Bird going off his rocker.
Great to see good publicity about the retired dogs though - the ones that I've placed through the adoption program will be happier now they don't have to wear muzzles!

one chap has already asked me to keep him informed the next time one of my racers need rehoming
they all love her turning up as she works the other dogs as she runs round like a maniac for a couple of mins and the others try to keep up even the little ankle bighters

Great news for Greyhounds in NSW.
We're still trying to get this draconian legislation amended in WA. The drafting of regulations to the Dog Act was supposed to be taking place in the early Autumn of 2011, Unfortunately this has been delayed due apparently to the changes required in the Cat laws - lets hope WA Greyhounds get to benefit from a change to this legislation sooner rather than later.
Cheers Madeleine

Nick Jodie is an exceptional greyhound she may have had an issue with everyday race life but she was always a great dog to handle ...her mate Kate {Santa,s Myth]is going into the GAP program another great little ambassador for the Greyhound AS PETS,the only issue she has is cats but she won,t have to live with any ...

Everyone needs to have a say Christine without being victimised gee there are things in that post of Vals that even as a dog bloke I must agree with ...I,ll ask the question ...how many dogs are being put into these retired greyhounds as pets programs where the owners full well know they won,t get past point A

John
If they put them in knowing they would be pts why wouldnt they just do it at the local vet?
Most make it through safety net, however gap is a different story and there needs to be a last resort for these dogs after that.
Who provides that should be worked on,
Hopefully this new green collar will help too.
I have not put a dog through gap, do you get a call if it dosent make it ?
Cheers
Tor

I have to disagree with you 100% on this one. Val Wolf is the epitomy of an effin troll. She or he will not discuss greyhound issues with respect to the opposite side of the debate. She is a typical scare monger who deservesno respect from anyone in the greyhound industry. I am not particularly worried about the rants & raves of the likes if someone like Val Wolf but please don't degrade Christine down to her level with your comments. A better greyhound person you will not find. If you look after your own greyhounds well John, stick to that, don't worry about what everyone else is doing with there's. You have to have faith that the majority of greyhound folk love their dogs & the ones who are doing the wrong thing get exposed pretty quick these days.

EXTERNAL LINK Above is a link to contact VAL WOLF (just type VAL WOLF in the "other" box) if anyone else would like to tell him to keep his American thoughts on the industry to himself and keep his pie hole away from our industry.

Hi Nicholas
With a syndicate thats a great idea as you would have a fair few dogs on your books so well done mate and I note you have taken one yourself.
Well done with Custom today too mate. She was due.
Yes we do need to do all we can thats why a greyhound retirement village of sorts could easily be funded.
Why not? Cause we are always looking at the next one instead of the last one?
Cheers
Tor

Mr Smart it has nothing to do with biting the hand that feeds me ...I have 3 here 1 will get thru GAP 2 won,t OK would I use a system like GAP to discard my dogs no way brother ...from what I have learnt in the 2 years back quite a few do ...and as far as me having them for a pet I have 1 and 1 and 2 how many does that make.I went to trials 1 morning and Jo said to me ..I just seen that guy kick that pup ...well Mr Smart ..the F*@**g pup belonged to someone else ..yes it was a break in dog ...I wish some people would stop being in denial Mr Smart a question for you because 30 years ago I never heard the term ......What Is A 2nd Dog ...why would someone ask me for a 2nd
