Today I adopted a Black Male Greyhound from Sheffield Dogs Pound wher he had ended up after being picked up as a stray, His Ear Marks appear to be HB SYY which although he is irish does nor appear on the data base. He has a micro-chip 981.098102557787 which has never been recorded on Pet Log but the pound found that the Greyhound Board had details on his recorded owner, who stated as the dog kept escaping that the pound could rehome him.

I have on Monday lost due to Bone Cancer one of my two Greyhounds Missy (Outstanding Miss) who I rehomed at the age of 8 years in July 2007 from Wimbledom Greyhound. She already had a very weak right leg after breaking the hock in late 2002. The bone cancer was attacking the femur on her supporting back left leg that it snapped on last Friday at the ball & socket Joint of the hip.

I saw on Tuesday that this lad was in Sheffield Pound having read about him on Sighthounds for life forum and decided I must give him a loving for ever home, which is why me and my two present hounds travelled 430 miles today to adopt him. He knows what inside living is all about and already adores my two hounds one Greyhound and one Ibizan Hound. At the moment they all are fast asleep in my front room.

Any information about my new lad would be great

Thanks Ted, Merlin and Menta Plus now Mickey Finn

Try the Irish Coursing Club Ted - EXTERNAL LINK
I believe they keep the records to match the tattoos - so they should have details for your lad even if he's not on the Greyhound-data site (perhaps because he never raced?).

Good on you for going the extra mile to adopt him, I hope he continues to settle in well!

Thanks for the link to the Irish club, do you know which number to ring as not one states for information.

By the way Mickey is really settling into our bungalow, I was a little bit confused when I woke up this morning as Merlin was on his duvet under the window in my bedroom, I rolled over there he was on the duvet by the door in my bedroom, of course it was Mickey. Mickey does look like the younger brother of Merlin or even Merlin's son. Both Irish bred ear marks.

I'm not sure Ted - have never had to do it myself as Doc came with his records.

Ah - I've just remembered there's a tattoo search page on this website! CLICK HERE

Try Mickey's tattoo on that and if no joy (it does say that not every dog is listed) it gives the following contact details for the ICC:

Irish Stud Book:
Irish Coursing Club, Davis Street, Clonmel, Co. Tipperary. Eire.
Phone (00 353 5222611)

Good luck with your search - meanwhile it sounds as if Mickey is getting his paws well in under the table chez Wolfenden!

Thanks Sam, yes I was rather strange as his racing name was already on Greyhound Data but they had fogotten to put his ear marks. First time I have come across this with 20 or so ex-racers that I had to check when they came into Binfield All Bredds Dog Rescue mainly from South Wales flapping/independant tracks.I had a number who were adopted from RGT and other Greyhound Rescues whose adoption owner placed in Binfield rather than the Greyhound back to its rightful rescue. One had come from a rescue near Aviemore Highlands and when I contacted them they drove down overnight to collect their Greyhound from Binfield.
