Mandurah Mail Birthday Heat Review
Track record holder Uno Reltub started odds on in the first heat from box eight but he fell short by a nose. Outsider Plantagenet flew to the early lead and while Uno Reltub was left positioned outside of the leader, eventual winner Rudge steered down to the fence and was able to pinch a small break as they straightened. The fading Plantagenet kept Uno Reltub three and four deep for most of the trip but take nothing away from Rudge who posted a smart 22.65 from box seven. The second heat was won by the Terry Erenshaw prepared Star Keeping. The daughter of Pure Octane charged out of box seven and won easily, posting a smart 22.57 over rank outsider Twist And Shout. Heat Three belonged to Mungo Park and Linda Britton. The capable sprinter capitalised on box one and defeated Vocal Enforcer and Marked Down by over four lengths in a new race record run of 22.33. The fourth heat was taken out by Victorian raider Marbro Man. The son of Elite State was heavily backed into a $1.40 favourite and after a poor getaway recovered to win in 22.55. Local star Two Pot Screamer found the front but was no match for the winner who saluted by two lengths. The triumph gave trainer Terry Erenshaw his second finalist and no doubt Marbro Man will benefit greatly from his first race start at Mandurah. His career record now stands at 22 wins from 38 starts. The fifth heat loomed as a showdown between Queenslander Give And Take, former NSW chaser November Tribute and Mandurah specialist Bomber Command. Give And Take began like a rocket out of box six and kept going, winning in a blistering 22.42 over popular local Bomber Command who was four lengths astern. November Tribute began only fairly from pole position and copped a bump at the first turn before running fourth. Heat Six provided a grandstand finish. Okay Ashlee, a 12/1 shot from the Andrew McLaren kennel led throughout to beat the fast finishing Not In Kansas by half a head. She made no mistakes, beginning well, railing strongly and recording a solid 22.76. The runner up Not In Kansas came from seventh at the first turn to go down narrowly and was responsible for a massive run. In Heat Seven boom youngster Als Special had his supporters sweating profusely at the half way mark when he found himself five lengths behind runaway leader Gramps. However the young gun dug deep to claim victory by a head over Gramps and a further head away third was Moss Vale. The final heat was taken out impressively by race favourite and former track record holder Belarus. He won the fight for the lead with Big Jo King and sizzled clear in the front straight to win by three lengths in 22.60. Big Jo King was Linda Brittons fourth runner up and outsider Lotza Talent was close up in third position. See box draw for this Friday nights $37,500 Final:
