I remember a year or so ago we had a healthy community of posters with adopted Greyhounds asking for help and sharing their greyhound news......where have they all gone?

Some of us are still here but i have not been so talkative without my dogs.As you know we lost all three in 11 months and i still cry for them and miss them just as much now. They were my whole life and as much as i'd love to re-home more greys as they are such loving dogs,i just cannot take the steps to replace Bare Ranger and Roundy.Life is so empty without them and things are not much better regarding Bill,he's started choking again so were waiting for appointment for scan and biopsy to make sure the cancer has not returned.
Myself i have been diagnosed with copd so my breathing is very bad this hot weather.
If things improve we may get another 2 greys,i will let you know.

I always pop on too, shared my news on the passing of a few dogs and the arrival of a new one...not everyone on here is interested in retired dogs, only a handful respond but I like to think that maybe the person who owned my dogs prior to me will see my posts and know they had good lives x

tony, at the minute its a nightmare trying to get dogs homed, I had a man land at my door in march with a bitch, thankfully a organisation took her and shes now in czech, hes come back again with another bitch but am not having much luck so far...theres dogs coming out of the woodwork...please dont, however advertise her on gumtree for free as dogs are being used for hunting, and baiting in dog fights...put her on here for the attention of one of the rescues...you dont want her ending up dead somewhere :(

Greyhounds are coming out of the woodwork here for me and everyone else as well. Every day I have to turn down greyhounds. All of us do. What is additionally choking up the system are lurchers, what I would call 1st-generation lurchers. There are more of them than ever, and this is probably due to all the "free to good home" greyhounds who end up making lurchers. They don't go to good homes at all a lot of the time. Then they also sometimes end up as sorry cases, picked up as strays, taken in by the pounds and taken in by greyhound adoption centers. It's very discouraging.

I agree with you according things have to improve,
but I don`t agree these problems are caused due to lack of money paid for these poor creatures when rehomed private.
So much money in the business does not protect them at the end of their career, so what should 1oo,- be then?
Not to mention there is sadly not enough space and money to take all of them in at the mom.

M.J. - You are making a very, very good job, but please don`t blame those, trying to save the dogs life by giving them into GOOD hands. In my opinion those are the wrong address.

I dont think people realise that offering free to a good home is bad, the type of people replying to these ads most of the time are people looking for a hunting dog or to breed a hunting dog, I have explained to a few to take proper measures when looking for a home for their dog, they would be horrifed if they knew their dog might end up half starved and in a pound or worse.
I recently rehomed a male greyhound, the owner had a few calls looking for a dog for lamping ..thankfully the owner didnt want him to go to that kind of 'home' and contacted someone who would help.
Ofcourse there will be those who wont care as long as the dog is off their hands.
