This is addressed to all the Adoption Centres that do a wonderful job rehoming our greyhounds, also some rehome lurchers and the also dogs. When owners put their dogs up for adoptions it is not because they do not care for them, on the contrary it is because when they have finished racing they want them to have a better life living with a family and not stuck in a kennel for the remainder of their life. So please all of you Adoption Centres please do your utmost to let the owners who request news on how their greyhound has settled in, be forthcoming and some pictures would be nice. If the new adoptive family could send news that would be even better. Keep up the good work it is very much appreciated.

Well said Carole. My mum and myself are big into rehoming.
Last year was an exceptional one for us, as we had 9 dogs rehomed with a few different Adoption agencies, IGB EGN ect. Mum has been invited over to Belgium by the new owners of one of our dogs and she is going over next month to visit her darling "SPUTTA" she cant wait.

I have been in touch with many off my Pups new owners albeit I never owned the pups whilst racing, however it is a win win situation as I get to know how they are doing and the New Owners get pics when they were babies as well as Videos of them and their siblings growing up, I also were possible let them see races, this gives the owners more about their new pet..

I always post updates as I get them on my face book page as previous owners/trainers are able to see them as well.
And well done to anybody who rehomes their greyhounds and yes you do deserve to get updates on them.
But most of the time it is hard to notify people directly and that is why I post on Face book.

I have rehomed 4 dogs directly from owners, only one is on facebook so he can see the dog anytime...another owner David mcGrath, I emailed at the beginning and let him know how she was settling in, and when she passed away...Im sure alot of owners like to know their dogs are in good hands esp if they didnt go through an adoption programme

I remember saying once that it gives me as much pleasure to see photos of our rehomed dog living in the lap of luxury as it would to win the derby...of course I've never won the derby! Lol! (Hi Florence!)

I think if we get an update photo into the dogs pedigree after rehoming this might help for all who are not in direct contact?

Good Idea Monika about the Greyhounds.

But in the past, I have had problems with a Greyhound Lady over a Pony, 2 ponies were surrendered to me in dreadful condition (one of them really was a cruelty case) But sadly Willow had to be pts a couple of months later and Banjo went to a so-called-friend involved in rescue for foster.
I kept an eye on him and I called the Vet to him many times and he was given injections but then winter was coming and I knew he would not last but I got an awful shock when I went to see him, the poor animal needed to be PTS but the foster lady would not agree to it and she got the previous owner involved, so I need not tell you there were a lot of words, threats and horrible emails sent to me and horrible phone calls. But I stuck by my decision..........

So in the end I had to enter the property and remove the pony, to make a long story short, previous owner got in contact with my vet, so we agreed to let previous owner see the pony before it was PTS ( I wanted the owner there to witness the pony getting that injection as she bloody deserved it) Owner arrived just as the Vet arrived, Vet pointed out that the Pony was a Skeleton and very weak and Vet said it had to be PTS and still she resisted but Banjo was PTS that evening and to this day I still have not received any donation from her for either of her 2 Ponies and she is or was rather big in the Greyhound Business, I hope she reads this!
Foster person should never have got the previous owner involved so I finished with her and she is lucky that I never had her up on a cruelty charge.

I have no problem with Greyhound people knowing or getting updates on their dogs but I never let regular people know where their dogs have been homed homed, these would be regular dogs surrendered from owners and I would have adopted them out BUT that is another story all together.

Sorry for the long winded post but I just wanted to let you all know what can happen at times when previous owners know about their former animals and where they are and if they are in contact with new adopter.

Hannah - I am sorry for that you had to go through such problems - and sorry to say - I am sure, you are not the only one.
Things like that happen.
But if we want changes, we have to change our behaviour - all together.

As long as we "only" update the greyhounds pedigree here in the data (I stay with the greyhounds for the moment) with a new picture, this gives at least the chance to witness the outcome of a dog given away. If and how much contact between former and new owner will develop I fear is no ones decision than theirs.

New owners of a registered greyhound have at present to get the Identity Card with the dog. So if they wish, they do have the opportunity to get in touch with the former owner.
Those of my two did never get in contact although they could if wished. Well... that is the way it is. I adopted the dogs, not the owners :D
Everyone does the way he wants. As many owners, as many different thoughts about all the aspects.

Only - if we want owners to get trusting, we will have to provide the necessary insight they need to gain trust.
Isn't that normal?
Do we trust without transparency?
Do You?
I don't... most times ;)
Best is to get in contact to learn one from the other ... but on a voluntary basis.
That is my point of view - one out of thousands :-) lol
