Colin, I think it is You to decide which dog is allowed to do something within your territory as leader of the pack. GSDs are breed to be territory as greyhounds are for running. So I'd try to restrict the GSDs territory - tell him what is allowed and be sure to manage the task yourself. New situation - new rules as simple. Be the boss. Don't allow him to ask :-) And don't have one dog in, the other one outside in the Kennel. Sure otherwise Hutch will think everything is as it always was - he is in, the other one is not allowed in.... I have a personal place for every of my three dogs - no changing here or there if they have any sort of conflicts. I would not let your two dogs out together without supervising and regulating in case. I think Peter Gurry's method to establish a new situation with a complete pack is a good method - It is what suites best to canine mindset of being a pack. If the GSD recons, there are positive effects on his own life by the additional dog in the pack, you have got the coup. So maybe you can find a something showing Hutch, that the greyhound enriches the packs status and abilities. If he gets an idea what speed the Grey is able to run, he might gain some respect? On the other hand the Greyhound might like a strong protective dog by his side. Every pack member should have a task suiting to his character and strengthen the group. I have two males - the smaller calls the bigger if he thinks he might need some help. Calling the big brother for help. So he is happy to have the big bully beside him although this takes something off of his own status as well. If I think it is enough both will have to come back.. lol Best of luck anyway
