I have seen em all live in the flesh except Hendrix & JEFF BECK RULES ! Take a listen 2 beck's "blow by blow" cd , pure genius at its best ! Cop a Page lick then try & cop a Beck lick , then u will understand

Copping Page's style not that difficult. Try copping Beck's style. many try but don't come close. I've been playing over 20 years & still find it extremely hard to nail down Beck's fingerstyle technique. Mark Knopler has a similar technique & he's a phenominal player but NOT in Beck's class ! I got a dvd where Beck blows Clapton, Page & Gilmour off the stage ! & that is a HUGE STATEMENT 2 MAKE Ryan but he does it with ease. When he is "on" NOBODY on the planet can match it with Jeff Beck ! GOD GOSPEL TRUTH M8 !

Buddy Guy is a great bluesman I love his pokerdot strats he makes em scream, just like my fav B.B KING. I saw him in concert with the full 15 piece band & 4 a 80 yrs old B.B played like he was still in his early years. he has a vibrato you could drive a car through ! Completely unique & widely admired by ALL the famous guitar players.

Kenny Wayne Shepherd is a fine " younger" blues player. Listen 2 the track 'TROUBLE IS" definitely channeling the late great STEVIE RAY VAUGHAN. R.I.P

I don't rate MALMSTEEN that highly as in my opinion he is just a neo classiscal shredder that lacks any soul or feel. techniquely very good just a bit painful 4 me 2 listen 2. Joe Perry from AEROSMITH is ya typical rock band player like say ACE FREHLEY who is my hero or ANGUS YOUNG OF AC/DC. I like Perry's style & my favourite lick of his is in the song "LOVE IN A ELEVATOR'. A great guitar player requires more than just flash & balls Ryan they have 2 have a distinct GREAT GUITAR tone. LIKE say BRIAN MAY ' as soon as you hear 1 of his licks you instantly know its him cos of that unique VOX tone & QUASI humbucker guitar tone he has. great tone is just as important as technique in my opinion Ryan. I have a 93 GIBSON LES PAUL SUNBURST I paid $1800 U.S $ on my trip 2 Hawaii way back then. I love the LES PAUL TONE the best & once you have played 1 that's set up "right" you can't go back & play anything else + a great guitar that is set up right makes it 10 times easier 2 play & learn on + keeps your hand position in the correct place & you don't suffer sore wrists etc etc thst you get playing crap guitars that should be used as a boat paddle. So spend the extra bucks & buy a great guitar & your playing will improve out of sight.

+ A great guitar will stay in tune all the time. I use D'addario 10/52's strings. when I restring a guitar I will stretch each individual string at least 7-8 times b4 tuning it. if u stretch your new strings properly on a quality guitar then tune them those strings will only need a slight tweak now & then 2 stay in tune all the time. a el crappo guitar loses tune all the time + sound terrible & basically difficult 2 play . Trust me on this 1 Ryan. I ALSO tune my guitar down a 1/2 step 2 "D-SHARP" like all the rock bands I love like AC/DC,AEROSMITH,KISS,QUEEN ,VAN HALEN , THE WHO & Co.

A legendary guitar player whose name I won't mention once said ; when it comes 2 playing its not what you put in that matters , its what you leave out that counts. meaning less is more. no need 2 play triplets at warp speed , you can say just as much with just a bunch of notes that makes a sweet phrase. TASTEFUL PHRASING is the real go . Dave Gilmour is a master of that art + also 1 of the all time greats. his solo in "comfortably numb" is 1 of the best you will ever hear in my book.

Fair call re Marmstein, Steve - come to think of it, you've prob called it pretty well.

I'm a rap for Bellamy as the up n comer.

When I saw him live, he was playing piano & guitar equally at the concert and when he switched from smashing those black n white keys to the guitar, I thought he struggled with the quick changes - considering Muse play a lot of scales up, down, inside out and sideways really quickly.........you gotta make sure you hit those notes.

Pointless talking about what shlda been as they've sold out now . They were gr8 early on with Cave, Dead Star, Showbiz, Citizen Erased etc.

Do you rate Chad Taylor from Live....the old stuff they did - Dam at Otter Creek, Rattlesnake, Hero Psychodreamer, Where Fishes Go EXTERNAL LINK etc ?

ps. Dave Gilmour.......can't stand Pink Floyd. Good bunch of session muso's I thought.

Cheers.

I'm not a huge Pink Floyd fan either Ryan but DAVE can certainly get down the "alley" ! Those other bands you mention I have never heard of m8. I am old school stadium rock & oblivious 2 the more obscure artists around. ALL bands sell out now ! a lot of the new stuff just doesn't grab me if you get my drift. I am a pretty hard judge on a k9 & even more so of any bands m8. a lot of bands haven't got the gift of just putting a simple catchy melody & motif 2gether then phrase a decent lyrical melody on top of it. Most stuff now just stock standard 3-4 chord progressions without even a bridge or a key change then turnaround & last only 3mins radio friendly. When did you last here a new song that you could even mention in the same breathe as say BOHEMIUM RHAPSODY ? Quality songwriting is as rare as champion k9's these days I think Ryan.
