Fair call re Marmstein, Steve - come to think of it, you've prob called it pretty well.

I'm a rap for Bellamy as the up n comer.

When I saw him live, he was playing piano & guitar equally at the concert and when he switched from smashing those black n white keys to the guitar, I thought he struggled with the quick changes - considering Muse play a lot of scales up, down, inside out and sideways really quickly.........you gotta make sure you hit those notes.

Pointless talking about what shlda been as they've sold out now . They were gr8 early on with Cave, Dead Star, Showbiz, Citizen Erased etc.

Do you rate Chad Taylor from Live....the old stuff they did - Dam at Otter Creek, Rattlesnake, Hero Psychodreamer, Where Fishes Go EXTERNAL LINK etc ?

ps. Dave Gilmour.......can't stand Pink Floyd. Good bunch of session muso's I thought.

Cheers.

I'm not a huge Pink Floyd fan either Ryan but DAVE can certainly get down the "alley" ! Those other bands you mention I have never heard of m8. I am old school stadium rock & oblivious 2 the more obscure artists around. ALL bands sell out now ! a lot of the new stuff just doesn't grab me if you get my drift. I am a pretty hard judge on a k9 & even more so of any bands m8. a lot of bands haven't got the gift of just putting a simple catchy melody & motif 2gether then phrase a decent lyrical melody on top of it. Most stuff now just stock standard 3-4 chord progressions without even a bridge or a key change then turnaround & last only 3mins radio friendly. When did you last here a new song that you could even mention in the same breathe as say BOHEMIUM RHAPSODY ? Quality songwriting is as rare as champion k9's these days I think Ryan.

When it comes 2 music I am basically entrenched in the 70's & early 80's stadium rock. but I'll give anything a listen once. if I don't like a tune after just 1 listen I'll never like it ! I reckon I can pick a hit after just 1 listen but I am also biased 2 ! ha ha ha

I know what you mean Steve, its all tin can pop these days, the pokies killed live music in the pubs and clubs and that's where a lot of the good bands cut their teeth.

Couldn't agree with you anymore ! Newcastle used 2 have a great live scene in the 80's & 90's but now its dead & buried ! TRAGIC !

No James, it's rock music ........it's the staff of life

Steve if you want good lyrical stuff.................I remember I listened to the Secret Samadi (Live) CD for 18 months straight, every day - that was Live in their prime imo. Longest I've ever listened to a CD by a mile.

Here is a 100% true story Ryan. When I got a coupla guitar lessons by a well known jazz guitarist I had Jeff Beck's "blow by blow" in my Tascam 4 well over 7yrs straight. NO B.S M8 ! I was completely infactuated with that cd , you could say I was addicted 2 it & the ONLY track I came close 2 mastering was "freeway jam". I would sit 4 days & days until I had it under my fingers proficiently. I was so proud of myself that I had copp'd a Jeff Beck tune I went back 2 that jazz teacher years later & played it nearly note 4 note 2 him 1 night & he loved my interpretation of it cos he was the person who put me onto that cd all those years ago. So it was a big buzz 4 me that he actually complimented me on how far I had progressed since I had seen him last. TRUE STORY.

I agree a very talented bunch of individuals Ryan. Did you see Mick Jaggers joke at the MELBOURNE concert regarding Geoff Edelsons proposal to some woman young enough to be his granddaughter to marry him. What a crack up ! Great to see some people still have a great sense of humour. Gotta love Mick & the boys don't ya Ryan !

Steve i used to work with a guy who used to say a similar thing(ironically a guitarist too)...... nothing past '73 is worth listening to........he became so narrow minded, he lost the plot. I remember walking back from lunch with him one day and as we crossed the lights there was a prosthetic limbs shop on the corner with these crash dummies as window dressing for the shop - this bloke started humping the glass from outside.....honest to god truth !

Cant let that happen to you.

So pls get on u tube and find me a modern band worth listening to....pls. You're worth saving.

Sorry to say RYAN but 99% of us lead guitarists suffer from the same syndrome.Don't ask me how or why we suffer from this affliction m8. Maybe its just the hours & hours of practicing all the different drills to become our favourite guitarist in our own fantasyland ! All that shit can really mess with ya head trust me brother ! Probably why I am extremely eccentric in many ways. Its the k9's that help me retain some sanity m8! Ha Ha Ha

Also Ryan the latest news is that Sir Richard Branson offered Led Zep a $800 million dollar contract to do a 36 date tour & all the members signed on the dotted line except for Robert Plant who torn up the contract in the presence of all concerned & said "IT AIN'T GONNA HAPPEN". WOW ! He's got BIG BALLS to knock back such a mindblowing offer to cash in big time & disappoint all the millions of their long tmie devoted fans a once in a lifetime opportunity to see their idols in the flesh just 1 last time. I'll leave that bit of info for you to decide if Robert was just thinking of himself or does he owe all the millions of fans a favour who put him in the god like status he now sits in. If it was me I would of said "SO WHENS OUR 1ST GIG ? "

Cheers, Steve.

Two things I look for in bands are 'coolness' in the time they make to execute notes/riffs & sheer 'power' they have when they do, just makes them look dangerous and puts them in another league. Same with dogs, horses, footballers or anything else that moves. hehe.

btw Plant cant hit those notes anymore, no surprise to me he chose not to tour. You may not have heard him lately - I was shocked.
