It would only be self-inflicted harm if we did it... gambling pays our "wages", no betting no racing, surely there's better ways to make a statement.

It's a drop in the ocean and for one day, but it's a different issue here in NSW. I won't even go to a pub or watch any of them on T.V. !

The strike seems to be mostly about gallops. Today they scheduled the two main gallop meetings to clash & several races from Sale were put on Sky 2. Ridiculous considering there was only two meetings.

However it would be good for dog punters if they could force some change to make corporate bookmakers accept bets to a minimum amount.

After reading the Twitter feed punters are adamant the trotters/harness should get less air time.

I've said it a thousand times , John Tapp had way too much influence on Sky Channel & got massive coverage for the trots. Hopefully the producers at Sky look at the punting figures & realise that greyhounds & thoroughbreds are much more popular.

TAB turnover is 24% for greyhounds
Time for trots to move permanently to SKY 2

Hopefully with John Tapp retired it might now happen.

If you're a shareholder in Tabcorp make your opinions known to them re: airtime for dogs vs trots. The one thing these companies listen to are the shareholders

Its about winning fixed odds punters being banned or limited by corporate bookmakers (if you regularly lose you would have no idea).

If corporates had to bet customers a certain amount they wouldn`t be able to offer the inducements to lure mug punters and people would return to tote betting, which would mean more money for greyhound racing.

Get on board and send a message

Yes, but we are only receiving 13% in return. The Tax Harmonisation legislation (NSW) based on the contribution each code makes to their industry (even though prize money is far greater and a source of trainer/stable return) doesn't appear to support greyhound racing as much as I would have expected. Now we need to support punters. After all, they as some write, are important in the scheme of things.

In nsw I believe a boycott of the tab by anyone associated with greyhounds is the only language that will be listened too, get the turnover down to 10% and still receive 13% for a while. Let the gallops hold up the harness and let the govt do their budget with the tax take out of punting on harness racing.
As a whole greyhounds need a TV channel of its own and no timeslot restrictions

the gallops had there own tv channel call tvn it fail, so for me sky racing has been the growth of greyhound racing so dont shoot yourself in the foot, if bad decission been made by grnsw. dont blame the sky racing,

I don't see how a downturn in greyhound betting would help. Continued growth has to be our strength and bargaining power, although the more we grow the more the gg'S will continue to lobby against us.

I'm not saying don't bet, just don't place it tab, we get a better and fairer return from dollars bet with corps, eg ladbrokes who are putting in directly for prizemoney through direct sponsorship also. As for TV it would have to be a greyhound channel on sky free from the dead air time trots provide.

I've recently started betting with William Hill and so far the experience has been OK bar not backing enough winners. Seems punters want less time between the horse races. If that's the trend then the dogs should continue to increase its share of the market. Imagine the growth if the dogs were properly marketed and promoted instead of witch hunted and ran down by media and the lying libbers.

Jack, it seems like a Catch 22. However, there is no consistent, powerful and most importantly, vocal group lobbying from within our industry. GAG has gone to ground atm.
.
Yes, we do well on here and we usually win every day of the week, but we sometimes have to use other forms of media to get the message through to anyone who needs to listen and see what the real picture is.
.
Yes, growth would be unprecedented !
