Back the trainer ..Always back the dog dropping back in grade ..
Follow the pattern of the PRO's dogs and back them when all there dogs are up and firing .....
Dont back the PRO'S Short price dogs....Back the long price Kennel mate in the same race ..

David,

Each to their own - everyone has a different approach.

These days, a useful method is to identify false favourites and then back others which will be at overs. There are plenty. MEP and SAP meetings are full of them. (The last two such meetings had 14 favourites at $2.00 or shorter - 5 won and 9 lost).

Following a particular trainer is fraught with danger as they have just as many or more losers as winners and the top guy's dogs will often be well under the odds.

For example, if you backed Thompson's dogs at Sale over the past couple of months you would have made a small profit from 13 winners out of 20 starters. Small because 13 were also in the red. Hardly worth waiting it out?

And what do you do when that trainer has multiple starters in a race - very common? Daillys had 6 in one race the other day (and lost).

back the third, fourth and fifth in betting with equal amounts it has the same winning percentage as a favourite 33-35% but if one blows in betting you will get overs.

I have been doing this for over 10 years tried and true. Even better if you know form and adjust your stake.

G'day David,
I do my own markets, race form, box draw, grading & speed maps, which gives me an analytical idea of how the race should pan out from start to finish- barring any interference, therefore, getting " overs ",more times than not,but most importantly, backing winners & returning a handsome profit.
I also only punt when i think they can win & they are over the odds, even if that means having one bet all week or longer.
Eg,yesterday at Dubbo in the NG event over 500,i thought the favourite was vulnerable from the box draw, also up in class because of other dogs being well boxed, well graded, raced well at that track etc.I had the greyhound i backed, marked at 7-2 at best, the same as the eventual winner. But just as "Casey" was about to sweep past the weakening two leaders on the home turn, they drifted off the track taking her with them, giving a saloon passage to "Swifty's" dog, which cost her the race, but the bottom line is,i took 9's on F/Odds...way over what she should have been, but sadly ended running 2nd.
But if anyone is serious about backing winners, this is by far the best method...but you HAVE to be brutally honest in you're markets & you're analyses of the race, never punt with you're heart,no matter who trains it.

Stay away from fixed odds unless you get them early.

Follow SA greys. Big gaps in quality in a single race. A lot entering Thursdays in hope.

Most reliable way is to buy a dog and ring the trainer after a trial.

This is best with the gallops-

When the favourite is $2.50 or worse & the next 2 in betting are $4.50 or better take a trifecta with Fav.1st/ Field 2nd/ & next 2 in betting 3rd.-Pays really well when it comes up with an outsider coming 2nd.

Been using the bundle bet type recently get a great percentage of winners to bets with that betting option.

Boxes 1,2,7,8 go alright at Geelong too Quinellas and Trifectas.

G'day Michael,
That's intresting mate, many years ago,i would take 1-2-4 & 8 in boxed quins at Wenty on Sat/Mon on every race & got quite a few results.Only problem was that combination of numbers were invariably short priced, but as you would know ya can't go broke backing winners.
