I was having a discussion at work today with a few lads, the question was asked.
If you had $25,000 to invest hoping to turn a profit on this amount how would you do it best eg breeding then selling buying straws to hold on then sell buy a race dog and hope it wins more ..
We were trying to see from an investment point of view not a love for the dog or racing in general ... its to see if you could guarantee a return of above 10% on the money invested
Like to see if others have tried an matched this percentage year in year out...

As someone that has spent a bit on dogs Gav, its never about the money and you cannot ever guarantee a return imo.
If I had 25K id buy 5 or 6 pups and pay for the rearing and hope to get a champ, give myself a few chances, jmo.

you would buy 25 gran of shares in sydney airport ,
stock ticker (syd) buy on monday and check the investment in 12 months time , im quite sure you will have made a lot more than 10%
if its play money and you can efford to loose , by all means invest it in greyhounds lolllllllll
The only way to make a Small Fortune in Greyhounds is Start out with a Large Fortune!

Darren, Instead of investing in dogs,, get the 25grand, run out into the street and throw it all up in the air.. Count your losses and have a good nights sleep. Cheers Rich.

Sounds like a good plan remember Rich practice what you preach. Not sure if you would get a good nite sleep though.

See if John Carruthers would sell me 15 MS straws. Hold onto them for 10 years and sell. Purely as an investment idea!!

Thanks Sean This is something I want to do ... I have see. A mate try this but pups no good .. I tred this with the same sire and had no luck either had a few winners but nothing to write home about .
Thinking straws may be a safe option if you are thinking this way.. how much do clinics charge you to store the straws per year ?
If I buy multiple straws from one dog will I get a discount ?? I just purchased 2 straws so I'm on my way
I reckon I would prefer to breed and keep but then again buying a race dog would be fun for $25,000 ...

Easy... See if Plugger will part with 5 x Collision's ... that's 22k.
Speculate with the remaining 3k... after all, you'll get 25k+ for the Collision's soon enough I reckon.
I sell you a Flying Stanley and 2 x Thurlesbeg Joker's for the 3k left over ... and I say it's a safe bet you're not going to lose out there within the next 2-3 years.
Or skip the Stanley or one of the Joker vials, and sweet-talk Alex for a Prince Diablo instead.
Like I said .... "Easy" ;-)

Sounds easy Anthony !!
I reckon the brood x top sire is the way to go Gavin but straws could guarantee you your 10%
Either way investing the amount in the industry is good
