With just 2 weekends of the new season completed its early to be drawing any conclusions from a breeding perspective however i decided to kick of with first comments of the season.

Kingsmill Dynamo with 79 litters on the ground for the season and close to 500 pups would be expected to be top of the pile come end of the season. He made a good start at the first weekend picking up two winners at Kilflynn and a runner up, Blades of Music out of the super Blades of Glory , and Not Really out of Wilton Millie winning the two trial stakes. That sort of run rate will need to continue all throughout the season to keep his percentages out of the red. Realistically to break even he would need 22 TS wins, however i would expect he will have much more then that by end of the season.

Adios Alonso with 51 litters and just over 350 pups on the ground will also be expected to be pushing for the top of the TS winners list, he had one winner to date, with Pumpkin Adios getting the ticket in Liscannor in week 1.

Razor Ashmore has 33 litters on the ground with 173 pups on the ground has a win and runner up to his name, Grace and Glamour winning out of the O'Meara's Quality and Dash at the weekend in Glin.

Both Johnny Casanova and Mafi Magic have 111 pups on the ground , while Johnny is waiting to get of the mark Mafi has had a winner in the reserve TS in Ennis at weekend with Tromora Mafi out of Tromora Darkie. Mafi's number are lower then last year however i would expect based on last seasons performance he will show increase in next years litters again.

Wallace Green had a brilliant weekend with two TS winners with the very impressive Manly Girl out of Class Attraction winning the OTS in Ennis , the clocks from that meeting put her well ahead of others and indeed was ahead of a lot of cup dogs also so she is worth following this season . Isnt He Class won the DTS in Glin, out of Leigh Smokey , and connections Greens/Guineys would have had two pretty good reasons to celebrate given their win and offspring from their super dam Class Attraction winning as well.

Kyle Calvin got his first winner from first litters allowed to compete, With Oilean Delight winning on weekend 1 at Liscannor, this pup out of Diligent.

So as the weeks progress i will add to this and one final comment for now its great to see out of 8 trial stakes completed we have 6 different studs represented. Long may this trend continue.

Thanks hopefully as season progresses we will have more discussion and debate on the performances of sires and indeed I intend on covering dams also .

Feel free to comment or add suggestions for analysis .

Its very hard to truly assess sires until a few seasons go by.....most sires just dont get the numbers with the class broods flocking to the top sires......stuff like this is very helpful Den Thankyou

Agree fully Yvonne, "one swallow not a summer make" comes to mind. You need to look over a comparative sample size at end of this season i have a 5 year table for sires which should be more accurate for comparisons.

Im going to look at dams this year more, specifically TS winners and comment on crosses and points of interest.

Isnt he Class (Glin Derby winner)
CLICK HERE

This lad is out of dam Leigh Smokey who i would imagine is one which offspring from will be in hot demand of for long time to come. (if talking about her gets me on a list i will be happy wink wink!)

Her first litter to Kyle James she threw Aquino runner up in DTS in Tradaree, Leigh Lucy Semi finalist in Ballyduff and Rathdowney OTS, You Drodera who ran up a TS in Glin and ran up the Kingdom cup also. However pride of place in that litter went to Kyle Leigh who qualified for Nationals winning in Regional, he was beaten in Derby Semi final by Longmeadow Raz in which he can count himself unlucky. In All Age he ran up cup in Kilflynn before winning Munster Cup in Newcastlewest. Of course now he is standing at stud and has nice few litters to look forward to in future to carry on his name and of course 'granny'!

Her second litter to Musical Time contained Cashen Lightening a Semi finalist in Listowel DTS, Leigh Snowie who won OTS ticket in Charleville, and went on to run up the Oaks last year at postponed final day where she was beaten by Vienna Calling probably earning her the title of best in litter.

She also threw Positive timing RDTS winner in Sevenhouses, Tuscan Flavour OTS winner Kilcreevin/Ballymote, semi finalist in Patsy Byrne All Age in Limerick and Wizard Mathew who run up the DTS in Co Kerry and Ballyduff.

Her latest litter to Wallace Green obviously is already now proven with Isnt He Class's win last weekend.

So three litters any common denominators ??

For me it would seem that the presence of Gers Leader line cross is significant in all three matings. In her first two litters the Shauns Dilemma line of Gers Leader specifically is what catches my eye. Her latest litter to Wallace Green has Ger Leaders 4x5 cross where as in other litters its 5x5.

The other obvious common denominator is Newry Hill 4x4 cross in all three litters.

If breeding of this line in future i would be inclined to find best match to those two items and work from there

Alonso would fit the bill for me in this regard.

Anyways just my ramblings.

TS Sire Table (Wk3)

Kingsmill Dynamo 3
Wallace Green 2
Razor Ashmore 2
Johnny Casanova 1
Kyle Calvin 1
Kyle James 1
Judicial Affair 1
Killimor Matey 1
Mafi Magic 1
Adios Alonso 1

So with 14 Stakes completed (incl Reserves) it is great to see we have 10 different sires represented by the winners.

Dynamo leads the way however is probably just on run rate to match his % pups figure currently however a few good weekends could change the run rate very quickly.

Killimor Matey and Judicial Affair are off the mark from a small number of litters this is good (Matey, 7 litters), Judicial (1 litter).

So who was unlucky, Blueview Sam has three runner ups to date as has Alonso, so they can feel a tad unlucky however given its only week 3 plenty of time to go.

All TS winners and runners up for season to date meetings completed (incl Fermoy today) are now on here in pedigree section.

I will check the cup winners at later date and add missing ones.
