It gives me great pleasure to let you know the World Greyhound Organisation (WGO) has now been launched on Facebook:

EXTERNAL LINK

WGO will be working very closely with Greyhound-Data.

We are currently working on our website which should be online within the next 3 weeks. We are hoping that all people involved with greyhounds worldwide will unite through Facebook and our website by joining our organisation and helping us improve the knowledge and conditions for all greyhounds on a world scale.

World Greyhound Organisation

The World Greyhound Organisation (WGO) was formed to give all countries and their greyhounds a voice.
WGO will endeavor to unite all countries under one umbrella to encourage development and understanding of the magnificent animal we call a greyhound.

We constantly hear about cruelty in many countries but do not hear about the good people in these countries who care for their greyhounds and are trying to do the right thing. The World Greyhound Organisation will give these people as well as their greyhounds and all greyhounds around the world a voice and at the same time try to educate and change those that are not doing the right thing.

WGO Goals

The forming and registration of committees in countries which have greyhounds.

WGO will assist all Countries, committees and individuals reach the best practice standards they possibly can with their greyhounds. All Greyhound retirement/adoption groups, owners, trainer and breeders that are prepared to commit to follow our rules will be eligible to join the WGO. The WGO agrees:

1. To make knowledge and education available to all our members on all greyhound matters.

2. To assist in establishing greyhound welfare groups in all our members countries to specialising in homing and helping greyhounds in need.

3. To establish and maintain an accurate stud book in conjunction with Greyhound-Data for those countries that do not have a stud book.

4. To register the Owners and Trainer of all WGO stud book entries, ensuring accountability for the whole of life of all greyhounds of all WGO Stud book entries.

5. To promote excellence and best practice throughout the sport and retirement.

6. To open the way for our members to safely and openly discuss issues with other members.
To create and maintain a Stud Book for all countries. This will enable the WGO to begin to accurately record Greyhounds that are in various countries and follow their lives from birth to their passing with a view to one day being able to account for greyhounds on a world scale.

WGO will issue a pedigree certificate once the dog is entered into a WGO Stud Book.

Every step of the way we will keep all our members informed as transparency is paramount.

Thanks Michael for your support, we keep hearing about all greyhound people uniting we thought giving a platform for all people in all countries to unite giving everyone the opportunity to get involved.

Greyhound-Data already have studbooks for Chile, Argentina, Brazil, Portugal, India, Pakistan, and China. There are also several other countries that are interested once the website is up and running.

This is a big venture Michael so we will either succeed or fall on our face. At least we are having a go and if we only get to help a few countries and their dogs we are winners.

Our success or failure will depend totally on the support we get.

Thanks guys for your support. I have had several PM's about this and the main question seems to be about funding and how people can help. Once we launch the WGO website the cost for joining our organisation will be 25 which is around $50 per year. On registering with us we will give you access to your own web page where you can upload photos or news stories which will be viewed by all our members worldwide. You will also be joining and supporting organisation that is trying to raise all standards throughout the industry.

It is unfortunate that we have to introduce a charge to join but without funds making big changes on a world scale would be impossible.

If you have any questions please post them here as I am happy to answer them.

Happy to join up Tony and good leadership

Its a great concept, we need to educate people about greyhound racing and bust the negative myths that have been created by anti-racing agencies

Hopefully, the USA members will take it on board because they would be a major beneficiary of the turning of any sentiment that is trying to destroy the sport

We should all join up and give this a real push, so our sport can once again take its place at the top of the tree
