Greyhound-Data is being helped by a small team of industry professionals to try and bring more realistic accuracy to the 100% ratings.

Our aim is to bring the ratings back to being a fair achievement rather than in some cases an easy feat.

These ratings are in the process of change as of 1st of this month and will be constantly overlooked and tweaked if need be.

It is hoped these changes will both help buyers and sellers get a more accurate assessment of the greyhound.

Please Note: When buying a greyhound you should not rely totally on the GD points. They are only a guide. You should always check the greyhound out yourself on its race times, temperament, ability and past performances.

Hi Tony,

I have emailed before regarding the ratings given at Perry Barr track in the UK.

Skywalker Cila recently ran over the 480m trip and did 27.98. The rating she received was 126. This was only 5 spots off the track record which is 27.93.

In Skywalker Cilas previous race she ran at Shelbourne Park over 550yds and did 29.19. For this she received a rating of 142. The track record over 550yds at Shelbourne Park is 28.99, she ran 20 spots off this time and received a much higher rating in comparison with her Perry Barr run.

Can you please look at rating system for Perry Barr. This was the fastest time that has been done at Perry Barr for over 6 years since the track record was originally set. There have been some fantastic dogs that have run at the track that havent broke 28.40 and theyre only receiving ratings around 105 for this.

I know the rating system is only a guide, but it would help if it was accurate and gave people a decent indication of their dogs ability. They are taking their dogs to different tracks and getting much higher ratings due to other tracks having a more accurate rating system.

Fair points Daniel, agree especially with the last sentence.

Fantastic run by Skywalker Cilla and 'exhibit A' of how the new ratings will eventually look for the UK and Ire.

100 being like years gone by a rock solid A1/Minor open dog on their 'A Game' an almost career best run.

120-130 in turn would be a group class greyhound putting in a real run and knocking on a clock.

Some of the ratings and for all sorts of reasons were so far out since last updated, new surfaces, timekeeping systems, change of ground staff, new racing office teams changing etc etc

Westmead Hawk, Farloe Verdict, Some Picture etc wouldn't win a D3 at Dundalk if the current ratings were to be believed, so fair play to the Data team for trying to address these issues as some people certainly do need a fair guide.

To put your mind at rest the new UK ratings started 1st October and Skywalker Cilla i would think has the highest UK rated run so far?

Irish ratings have been updated also and the data team should have those in place for 1st November and any UK tweaks required.

Any input from track regulars/specialists is greatly appreciated, getting all the tracks and trips bang on will take a few months am sure, but am told all can be backdated as well so it will be interesting to see long term how accurate we can all get it.

It will never be spot on. You got dogs from 6-8-10 years ago that were running 2-4 lengths off a track record then they fix up a track or a camber and the average dog runs 8 tenths faster than before. Lithgow is the prime example.

I'm sure Tony and the team would be open to Australian ratings being looked at also.

But Tony do these people know the tracks and how hard it is to run them, like Mullingar shelbourn thurls Youghal Enniscorthy.
they are the hardest tracks to run in Ireland so these should be ratted better than any other tracks, but to be ratted 139 last year and this year for the same time ratted 118 that's a big chunk of the ratted points Tony.

Hi Alan which dog?

pretty sure the ratings will all be backdated for 2021 and 2020 eventually?

139 sort of rating would be knocking on a clock, absolute group 1 superstar that is the aim. Getting just a 100 will be a very solid run as it used to be.

The ratings got absolutely out of control and timing systems changed nothing was factored or updated.

Irish ratings were changed i think 17th Oct so anything before that would be changed also in line with new ones
