Hi Andrew, really Banjo never got many Primo Uno lined broods? Very surprised to hear that!! Im seriously looking at him for a city winning bitch of mine carrying Primo Uno!

This topic is trying to show its not so much Fernando/Barcia for instance that puts the motor into the top racers. Rather the actual pedigree (engine) within. Which can be obtained from varying sires of distance and price point. After all, 99.9% of sires were indeed top class race dogs themselves. In turn the breed benefits as a whole!

Your brilliant racebitch Showgirl Queen actually looks the perfect test case to prove it. While youve gone and put the aforementioned cross in using Fernando Bale. Would be interesting to see the result youd get using the complete opposite end of the spectrum in a non-commercial all distance dynamo - CLICK HERE

He Shall Power shows it working, as does Xtreme Knocka and an originator Si Senor as well. Then you have the correlation between Droopys Kewell and Flying Penske (Herstal, Antigua Fire, Droopys Noah, Javielenko, Droopys Dargle)...plus the cross between Droopys Kewell and Surf Lorian (Definite Opinion...Barcelona Boss). Not to mention the obvious Wheres Pedro duplication. Making it a well balanced looking pedigree. But most importantly putting proven big time powerhouse genes together.

Interesting topic...

What have been the breeding ventures for gurus Darren Leeson and Ryan Vanderwert over the last few years? I haven't kept a close eye on the goings on in the industry recently.

I did see the Leeson bred Frieda Las Vegas has a huge motor, but lacks early speed and can get smashed in the pack as a consequence. Mind you she is out of a champion UK bitch, so it's little wonder she can gallop.

Can't help but agree when you mention Dundee Osprey Darren,a very underrated sire imo,but there are so many more in this category, even though i am certainly not a breedi g guru i have always said that
you shouldn't be a " follower " by taking a broodie to a sire just because everyone else doe's, be a leader,& as you say, look outside that square & take her to a sire that suits her pedigree & has worked before. There are so many choices when looking at a potential sire,it's not funny, sometimes,up to 6 or more if you do the homework imo.

Definitely an interesting list, but not what I was asking.

There are three types of lies -- lies, damn lies, and statistics.

I don't want to drag this thread down the same old boring path. But in response to your list I see 85%+ of the current top 20 dogs for 2020 on greyhound data are out of City Class bitches.

My list is from the year or 2 before. What it shows is people having a crack. What this game is all about. And complete respect from me to anyone willing to risk their own money breeding litters.. Look at the enjoyment we all currently get watching Simon Told Helen and Black Opium. Or yesteryear watching Temlee, Brother Fox and Rapid Journey. All of which were from ordinary racebitches!

Talking to a freind today who breeds horses he mentioned Black Caviar's son is at stud after a failed racing career. Is there any record of a successful greyhound sire who raced poorly but was sent to stud purely for the bloodlines?

Carnage was apparently the quickest in his litter but never raced. He had a a good share of litters early on. Im sure his brothers helped with that though

While not failures on the track. Certainly werent stud dog material in their own countries, but turned out to be top class stud dogs - Which Chariot and Royal Impact.

Head Bound was unraced, but reportedly lightning fast and became leading sire in Ireland. Hes shown his worth here and continues to do so through Aussie Infrared.

Roanokee was a jet early but prospects mustn't have been good. But went well once he left here. Personally breeding wise and as a race dog i was surprised he left here.

Who knows the circumstances. He was used here and sired the rocket Mint Mojo. I think Paul Wheeler has used an old straw on Dyna Patty...

I will be watching the results of that one carefully. He was a brilliant beginner that could break there hearts and win group races. His early speed was blinding. I know hes a total different dog but he was Puzzle Prize like. Jumps and runs bullshit sections. Both were amazing to watch.

His progeny in Ireland were renowned for it. Youve got to hand it to Wheeler...he knows every ounce of a pedigree. Likewise Mitchell, it has the potential to produce a star!

He left here for what would have been a record price at the time not because he was a failure ... i think he only served 40/50 bitches here before leaving and threw some pretty handy performers .. Mint Mojo .. Subic City .. Sydney Tiger .. Queen Muffin .. Lady Mint ... Viper's Sting etc etc

We imported a few vials back from Ireland and i think PAW got a couple of them ... pretty sure there's still a few floating around

The one that got away maybe....its not just the stud dog you lose but i get annoyed that we also lose the damlines also. Hes one for sure but plenty of others you think if you had similar lines you would love to go back. But once they leave the shores you need luck to get the pedigree back. You need an overseas champion to be able to reintroduce the line. I guess its a matter of money talks
