Without getting too existential. Surely we are on this planet because the best survived and reproduced. Without dumbing it down too much wouldn't it be the same with Greyhounds?

Can anybody name me a poorly bred greyhound?
It doesnt exist.
Some are obviously better bred than others but show me a single greyhound whose lines arent littered with champions.

I dont disagree too much with where youre coming from Graeme. Just that a family tree is involved with these city class broods or broods with ability. And its from breeders generations beforehand. Breeding their Princess Diro / Glen a Aussie type bitches. That leads us to the first generation of city class.

These breeders shouldnt be discouraged from breeding. Look at Amron Boys dam Fernando Bale over all the great imports to have come to this country. From a champion Irish dam line. Genetically on paper, she was well worth a try! And I comeback to regulatory body controls. Along with self regulation when it comes to lesser broods. Remember two of the greatest breed-shapers have come from this category - Temlee and Princess Diro.

Yes, hands on is the best - why I have a great team behind me in every aspect after I put my matings together. Just like a lot of people organisations success in all walks of life its a team effort. However, the buck always stops with the one creating and funding it all. Again, the latter is the best leveller and way to learn if youre on to something or not. Easy to burn a hole in your pocket, if you dont get it right.

Yep, Princess Diro and Glen Aussie still appear in pedigrees today. So do plenty of others, city class and non-city class. Once a legless bitch produces quality pups though there's no turning back, the results are there for all to see and she'll likely remain in pedigrees for years to come.

The question is though, is breeding with legless bitches the best or even a good way to breed? Nope.

Until it is, Graeme, because if it succeeds, then its a bloody brilliant idea :)
The difference is in todays world, we will see very few people breeding with bitches deemed an experiment as the downside is huge.

Throwing darts at a dart board and occasionally hitting the bullseye doesn't make you a brilliant darts player. What makes you a brilliant player is doing it more often than everyone else.

Have you even bred a litter Scott? Surely if you are willing to ask the question you are also willing to answer it. Examples please.

Long time ago for me Scott and mum and I were not big breeders by any means and when mum passed away I stopped so we only bred litters for maybe six years? There are many people on here that totally eclipse what we bred but for what its worth....Many of the names escape me now and Ive lost track of many of the pups and not all were super star group winners but there were many, many good city class dogs who went on and did well for their owners and for my mum and myself, A handful off the top of my head - Laurels winner Stetson Donna, Gawler Cup winner Grande Siyan, other group dogs including Alpindor, Mystic Apple, Kiss Me Katut( born after dams were sold - long story) and city dogs Agility, Juselle Siyan, Suffocate, Autoamerican, Jordy Pordy, Arizona Siyan, Diego Siyan, Cool Draught, Elusive Fantasy, Suffocate, Creative Mojo, Lucy Ball, Intellectual, Watta Innings, Final Shiraz, Air Bound, Memory Bound, Leo's Wish, Tas (who went to Ireland and became a leading dam and grand dam with grand get winning now over there).....Apologies to the owners and trainers of dogs that have slipped my mind at the moment.
The next step, over ten years since my last litter - Cindy Maree's Rupee pups and Silent Enemy's Fernando pups due in the next month or so. I am so looking forward to having greyhound pups again. Mum would be smiling.

You are contradicting your stance on people using under performing bitches as broods, by highlighting the very fact classy dogs produce classy progeny.

No, ive not bred anything of note but as I state often, I dont criticise what others do Paul, because until something I breed hits the heights, Im not deluded enough to think I know it all ;)
Your turn to answer.

Bred / purchased 15 litters over 22 years, for total prize money to date of $1.1 million - averaging $73K per litter.

Bred - Kalden Fury, Frieda Las Vegas, De Ferran, Droopys Fool, Merchant Navy

Purchased - City Of Sydney, MLadys Fool, Maribyrnong Girl

Recommended (can all be verified) - in 2015 tried to purchase Nicki Fields before she won in the city and was asked for a sire choice for her (Barcia Bale) - result Hooked On Scotch (Aus), Heres Hayley (Aus), Romeo Expert (UK), Bunlahy Brett (Ire), HKF Jade (USA) among other Group race finalists.

I've never bred anything to write home about. We've only used a few bitches over the years, all from the same dam line. Here are a few of my favourites from those litters. A few of Group winners and placegetters, a few trophy winners, a couple of Track Record holders, plenty of City Winners, a few Group 1 placings and finalists, but nothing of real note. I haven't been that anal to count the prizemoney of every single pup and total it up. But every litter we've bred (except the last 2 disasters) has had multiple city winners.

We were very much boutique breeders. Only breeding a litter every couple of years. We tried to be very selective with our brood choices. Trying to use quality race bitches. We'd seen plenty of people putting Moopsy to Boopsy and getting terrible results. So we put the best to the best and hoped for the best. We did all our own pedigree selections, whelping, rearing, pre breaking, training and rehoming. Such a satisfying experience, pleasure I really miss.

We haven't bred for a while, due partly to poor sire selections by me. I had to sell up my acerage property a few years ago to move back to Wagga, to help Mum and Dad out when their house burnt down. But I'm back in Queensland again, keeping an eye out for a potential new brood to get back into the breeding game.

So Paul, can I make the claim you ride on the coattails of others syndicate members, because thats what you do to me every chance you get?
No, I wont do that because Im sure you played your part, and while you think I dont, Darren knows exactly what I do for our little venture and thats why I deal with him.
Some lovely dogs there, no question.
If you breed again and succeed, Ill be the first to say well done and Ill mean it.

I was the Syndicate manager and looked after sire selections, whelping, rearing, pre breaking and rehoming. It was very much a hands on piece of teamwork. Keith cared for the broods. Gary was the trainer and he was a genius. It was such a fantastic time, with some life long mates and wonderful memories.

Scott if you reread my posts as pub banter and Aussie piss taking. You might understand it's mostly said I jest. As I said previously I loved watching your ride with Frieda and said so on here. I've already wished every success with her future litters. I recommend people do 't breed from ordinary bitches, because of mistakes we've made over the years. I'm doing them a favour. Call it tough love if you like. If you were to speak to me in person you would see my tongue is firmly in my cheek and I'm winding you up. You don't get see see that I this form of communication.
