You have hit the nail on the head, the Ivers', Hallinan's, Leeson's ;-) of the greyhound breeding game can afford to use sires like this, because they don't have to sell and have a production line of pups coming through.

Its all about the breeder! Goodesy was no superstar sire. That goes for Zipping Willow as well. Look who bred them both. All sires were very fast and classy animals, just needs the breeder to get the best out of them.
Went back and read the comments, plenty of debate and conjecture throughout Goodesys racing career. Very little chatter to be found on his stud career, after racing.

Where did I say it was "all about the damline"? I was highlighting how brilliant Mike is as a breeder / rearer and just how fantastic the dam line is. I wish people would read what is written, not what they want to hear.

Exactly, as Sandro said, most breed to sell, not get the very best racing product. Like the great breeders uncompromisingly do!

Sorry, you edited out your "It's all about the dam line" comment after I posted this comment. It's out of context now.

Goodesy has 295 offspring on Data. Yet, two hall of fame breeders have used him for incredible success. Both attacked Goodesys pedigree the same way. As did the Fantastic Dotty litter!

As good a dog like trooper tears is Goodsey was not wanted as a sire in the last 10yrs Now all of a sudden he the cream on top of the cherry I'm not knocking him As he was a class race dog But he went to China because he wasnt wanted here 99% chance he won't throw a cracker in his next 10 litter to those who will want to rush n use him again
Absolutely Paul. I'm very luck to have Tapestry Tears who was out of the 3rd litter of FB and Tears Siam. Empress Tears who is out of the same litter as my bitch has just whelped a litter of Goodesy pups last month.
It seems to be a really good click so fingers crossed for the future.
People are jumping on the Goodsey Bandwagon lately because of this hot litter. But I think they are forgetting just how fantastic the dam line they come from is.

If we remove the great breeders whove had success with Goodesy. What do we make of Goodesy as a sire?
Is the fact a handful of great breeders have utilised Goodesy to perfection and tasted top level success, where others havent. A suggestion, that some sires take a lot more working out how to breed to them that others?
Or more that with only 295 offspring, Goodesy was shunned as a sire, much in the same way Gun Law Osti was? The latter again, used by great breeders for great success and when the masses jumped on the bandwagon, it was all too late?

Sounds a bit like Droopy's Sydney ?

Droopys Sydney only had two starts and got injured. Naturally, they werent going to flock to him with that record. Whereas, breeders shunned both Goodesy and Gun Law Osti for similar reasons. Interestingly, both are in the Trooper Tears litter!
Will be interesting to see who else breeds to any remaining vials and the results. As clearly, he can when bred correctly, produce pups with massive motors and a touch of class.

GLO always had the ability to throw a fast pup, but some of those fast pups turned there heads !
Droopy's Sydney ran fast times before he broke down so his ability was known !
Nation Parade was unraced but that didn't deter breeders from using him.

Peter Rose published this when he was doing his Winning Lines books. Gun Law Osti was an elite sire for the ages.

Mike Ivers was not the first great breeder to recognize the Goodesy/Fernando Bale nick

Reasonable to assume Sandro, Mike Ivers, might have noticed that litter.
The one common theme between - Ivers, Fletcher & Hallinan? Great breeders, with superb breeding knowledge whove all had success with non-commercial sire Goodesy. In Mike Ivers case, unafraid to use a sire in most peoples eyes, never worthy of their broods &/or past his used by date - whelped 2007 (16 years ago).
The challenge for us all is to match their minds and mindset!
