Dan,

I do not know in what year it was officially introduced but Gavin Fitzpatrick was well into it in the 90's, he visited Camelot Farms in College Station, Texas on many occassions and had a lot of dialog with Richard and Sharon Conole at the time, I think Pat Dalton from Ireland was also involved as well as David Hayes of the TGA.

I know Paul Wheeler and Geoff Collins were involved in bringing FS from the States well before it became common place to Freeze semen in Australia. One of Paul's reasons was to try and introduce some of the old Australian colonial sires back onto the top line.

Mark you have to register your sire for frozen here, and we are going back into the 80's for some. Maybe the rules changed a bit since.

Not that many people would care, but does anyone know if any FS was drawn from Moral Standards?

I know it's a forelorn question, but does anyone know of any Malfoy FS out there?

Chris,

Marty has the last couple of straws to most people's knowledge. Don't think that he would part with them.

Just to read on this site who has what and who is holding on to semen of yesteryear is mind blowing . Perhaps this subject deserves its very own post with all an sundry declaring what studs semen they are hanging onto and if available for sale what sort of numbers are we talking about. Great to hear what is still out there.

One of the major considerations is how the semen is presented, straws or vials?, in the US breeders often had to use 3 or 4 straws to get a breeding unit equivilant to one vial, semen strength and quality is the key, there have been plenty of misses using straws before people realised that you needed a minimum quantity of good virile semen to achieve a pregnancy, this mirrors both human and bovine experiences when using straws as against vials.

Rod we used him once had a 12 month old blue brindle dog pup out of the litter who looked like being brilliant. Carolyn put him out in the run by himself & somehow while she was getting the next pup out, he managed to break his neck & was dead when she got back 1 minute later. Went to use him over another bitch & the studmaster had so many conditions & tests required to have the bitch served, we didn't use him again. A very BIG regret.

Chris,

What sort of tests and conditions? seems a bit strange when dogs need bitches to earn money, we took any bitch in, if they missed for some reason we then had terms and conditions regarding the miss, nothing pre-mating although we did always write up a report re condition of bitch, teeth condition etc. if the bitch missed we wanted some sort of answers for the owner, invariably if it was teeth, with the owners permission the vet. doing the FS usually took care of any dental work whilst the bitch was out under the anisthetic for the implant.

We have 2 x Hallucinate Straws currently stored at Vinyard Vets (Zammitts) that we are looking to sell

$5,500 for both (under the condition that if the first straw does not work, the 2nd straw is the return mating)

Anyone interested please email me

Mark , the guy wanted Thyroid tests done & speaking to him on the phone it was if all breeders were idiots. He was blaming breeders for the failure rate of his stud dogs. As I explained to him at the time we had bred probably 15 litters with only one bitch missing at the time. He said he would refuse to serve without the Thyroid test being done, basically his attitude sucked. Talking to other studmasters at the time & a couple of vets, they didn't belive thyroid tests to be important at all.

If the 1st straws works, the 2nd straw is a freebie - basically you have a 1st and 2nd mating in your keep for one purchase price

Well, it's not really free mate. $5.5k for one straw effectively if the first misses, and you'd hope the second one was a success.
