I thought I would start a topic about straws that people have stored away that might be some of the only ones remaining. Has anyone got vials of old old stud dogs popular or not?

if i had to do it again i wouldnt bother , there is a new flavour of the month sire every month , if you want to sell pups you must follow these sires , if you dont sell then it isnt that important ,
what we have now is quicker tracks , i think the best dogs times are about the same over the last few years ,
we will see wentworth park times much quicker over the next six weeks , yet we will be seeing the same dogs , ???????

Jonathon, I've just used a Split The Bill straw on our bitch. The straw was drawn in 1999. I can only assume there's not many left as last pups whelped (on this site) are 2007. I'm very interested to see what old blood to new blood produces.

This is a common thing in the US where a breeder may buy and store the current top stud dog and not use it for maybe 20 years.
I know breeders that have semen on such greats of the past like Kunta Kinte and Rooster Cogburn stored away in their tanks, they do use them occassionally on certain bitches, the purpose of the exercise seems to be aimed at getting brood bitches to mate to the current leading sires, if they get a good racer out of the exercise its looked upon as a bonus.

I've got a straw of exceptional stored for the right bitch. Not everyones cup of tea i know but i just like his damline and the chase he seems to inject so think he can produce to the right bitch.
Not sure how many others there is around? Probably plenty?
Mick that's some selection you've got there mate!!

Doug, don't underestimate the amount of pure speed that Exceptional adds, especially as a damsire.
He'd be one to use on a strong'er' type whom needed the extra pace.

Not at all mate, i thought he was a super dog and i think he can be a good sire as well but i just know i'll be keeping the pups so just waiting for the right girl to use it. Might be a couple of years before it gets used but it definitely will.
Cheers

I'm pretty sure you're right Carole. These cannot be shipped back here though can they as the sire is deceased is that correct?

Head Honcho, still a few vials in the US also some Light of Fire around, as well as Bobniak. I think there is also some Brett Lee. But of cause it cannot be exported because the sires are deceased and they cannot do all the blood tests necessary to import semen in Australia.
