I have a dog now and hes in the kennels a couple months now for the first week he was up he just about ate enough to stay alive then he started picking the raw meat/sardines out of it another week on he started half finishing his meals another week in he ate a full dinner 3 days a week then the 1st week in December he was finishing his meal almost every day of the week hes stayed like this up until he got a corn in his pad the 28th of December ,for 5 days he never ate his dinner just finished a small breakfast after 2 weeks of that he was not bad slowly starting to get his appetite back with warm milk + cooked chicken/beef slowly adding nuts and vegetables he ate a full meal the first day I gave it to him the next few days I put the dish down in his kennal and he just lifted his head to look at it and then puts his head back down , Anybody had any suggestions please send them in as if this dog keeps going the ways hes going it will be the death of me

Oliver, it sounds like he has a bad case of tonsillitis. The dog will exhibit this kind of behaviour, as the throat is sore and it hurts to swallow, especially harder food like kibble. Feel the gland, on the outside, at the back of his lower jawbone, just where it meets the throat. There is one on either side, and they swell up like golf balls when there is a bad throat/tonsil infection. Have a look down his throat, and the roof of his mouth. If he has a problem there, you may see small ulcers, the throat may be very red, and the tonsils will be very large and possibly ulcerated. If you are not sure of checking this, take him to a vet and get him to check the throat. If he has a problem, he will need antibiotics, and if the problem recurs, you may be better off getting the tonsils out, as they can be a recurring problem. Tonsillitis is pretty common, it will affect their race form, and it is also easily spread to other dogs in the kennel. Good luck and let us know how you go.

Hi Carole I had his toncils checked at the 6th of November they were bad but brought back then at the 29th of December and they were perfect i am keeping a close eye on them so it is definetly not them

Oliver, I still suspect that they are the trouble. If he had a bad case of tonsillitis, it will recur, unfortunately. He has the classic symptoms of it. I will tell you of an experience we had with a dog a few years ago. He had similar symptoms to your dog, and he was fading badly in his races/trials We saw an experienced greyhound vet near us, he checked them, and said that they were fine. We disagreed and insisted that we wanted the tonsils taken out, as we have had a lot of trouble with dogs' tonsils in the past. Anyway, when the vet took them out, he told us that they were some of the worst he had seen and he admitted that he had been wrong in his prior diagnosis. The dog bloomed afterwards, got his appetite back, and his race form improved dramatically. Look down his throat, push the flap aside covering each tonsil, and see if they are large, red and angry looking, or ulcerated. If they are, get them out and your dog should improve soon afterwards. Did you feel the gland on each side at the back of the lower jaw ?

Carole (god bless your cotton socks!) is being very greyhound specific on the tonsils. You've really not given us much other than it's a greyhound suffering inappetence. Now my link won't solve anything without investigation but remember they are dogs first and foremost.
On a personal experience note - if this lack of willingness to eat came after significant bones being fed particularly marrow bones or high fat diet, then again I'd go towards pancreatic issues as the underlying cause.
So cover the basics here first and consider this - EXTERNAL LINK Greyhounds are still dogs whether racing or not and frankly after tonsil checks pancreatitis would be my next focus area purely from what you've written here.

Have you tried tripe. It can be a nightmare when you have one like this, I have one she is retired but I have ended up having to actually put food down her throat 3 times a day for maybe a couple of weeks Tinned dog food also worth trying

i agree.feed small portions and mix with a handfull of stinky tripe.some dogs dont need so much anyway.maybe the portions have been too much and hes store fed

How is your dog coming along Terry? Dont buy into digestive enzymes etc if that is what vet prescribed. It's heaps recoverable but PM me if want that help. I'm giving up on assisting people openly.
