Good race bitch won't squat to pee. Now stands.

Had her back checked by vet, no problem.

Was advised to use bi-carb on her food for 5 days, no change.

She is still performing well but not quite as well as before

has anyone had a similar problem?

I had a dog that wouldn't `cock' his leg to pee, but that's a bit different. I thought lower back, kidneys, etc.

He wasn't much good and I don't think he thought much of me either.

Hip or patella issue maybe,? Maybe just get her thoroughly checked for soreness, that may find the problem.

Hi Allan,
Theres a thread on here - bitch not getting down.
Umm if you search it up theres some more suggestions there.
Theres some old boys humour going on, and the usual Aussies having a bit of a dig at the Poms, usual day at the office I suppose and ahh other than that wish you luck in finding any clues amongst all of the posts.
A greyhound specialist vet is not the same as a vet , when it comes to detection and correlation.
Not sure what state your in but off the top of my head I can think of only 4 vets in Vic that I would take my Greyhounds to for their muscles/bone areas.
Thats saying something considering the amount of vets in Vic.
It would be good to know of more up and coming ones, but once bitten twice shy.
If others know of more existing ones, they may have travelled more than me but I have to travel fair distances to them anyway, so anymore added to my list would only involve travel also - so dont need to add to my list, locally we dont have those vets.
Yeah so a trusted muscle man is worth his weight in gold, because they have amazing connections with the overall picture (as like those golden greyhound vets do too)
Ive heard of smaller dogs doing a handstand position when peeing but thats another path, appearing bigger/scent marking.
yeah keep searching until you find your answer.
And maybe someone can suggest to you a good place to start in your area.

Probably manifested this behaviour originally from a nervous disorder. As long as she is physically fine do worry about it. I had one that did this , but only prior to the race . Shows me it was a nervous disorder. She still won 16 races though.

I have one now that cant concentrate that well when peeing, if she knows she is emptying out close to the track surrounds. She has always done this as long as she has been with me, and I know that she is different when not near the track. She will still squat but dribs and drabs if race track surrounds are in her radar.
I have no concerns as I know she is well hydrated and i can empty her outside of the surrounds so that her elimination is normal as can be, just prior getting to the track and emptying areas ( and obviously more if longer trip). Yeah she has no patiences when at the track but yeah obviously not all bitches will let that make a difference to their peeing behaviour. And I am not going to change her, I work with her the best way that I feel is right for her. And yes she can easily be classified with a nervous disorder mixed with this extreme determination.

Its good to hear, for your point of view, that someone else has had a similar situation, as mentioned in another current position post here.
Personally, I would seek another opinion based on the fact her habit has changed, from squat to no squat.
Anyway, Im sure youll work it out, theres always enough feedback, older posts and support here, and whoever else you see, so that you can put your case together. Its a matter of deductions - resolving uncertainty sometimes or most times I think, but when your comfortable with your decision your greyhound will then be too, because thats what happens when you can follow through until you have your best possible answer.
All the best, and I will always wonder why now? - if I never get to hear the outcome.
Cheers!

Plus the main reason you would be looking just in case - is because she is not performing as well - and that is one point you do know.
So yeah you need to look further, any scenario is possible - it could be her big toe ,
And Good Luck!

Plus with mine,
She can if she wants destroy her coats by the morning.
(lots of sewing and replacing)
This one keeps manifesting, but I cant race her 7 days a week as she expects, she is a force to be reckoned with when it comes to her blankets. She is already booked in for GAP. Im not looking for any solutions because I am comfortable with the decision that I have finally made, as I know that with some not too long time she will happily be too!
If you dont have to worry about all that with yours, well your in a great position to work the issue out and put it in its place or leave it in its place - whatever it is!
P.s. told hereditary but whatever I have a replacement already that I dont have to spend so much time on when it comes to the basics. I respect her personality because I can see her great sharpness in her mind but she will happily ( once she gets over not going out to the track anymore and discovers other stuff, and of course a trusted good home) make someone very happy as a pet.

I just thought about the hereditary comment that her mum use to shred stuff, as said before. but more to the point a comment was made to me on how she has aged early in the face like her mum. And I found out that she had an operation on her eye previously, I believe it was to see if there was anything in her eye, nothing was found apparently. Her eye obviously restored itself possibly from an infection/swelling,?
Thats a sensitive area to have to operate on, its highly likely she was affected by that from a nervous point of view. Anyway, its all very interesting really. so shes a lot like her mum with her traits and she has experienced eye trauma which may have caused a nervous condition.
Well there you go, thats my girls summary, hope you find yours.
