Thanks Peter, yeh apparently they are ok. I would like to investigate them further though. Sent you a short message as well. Cheers

Hi Brent did you check her tonsils. I have a bitch here. After every trial she would drink serious water and pee everywhere. I got blood test done. Vet said she was dehydrated. I asked are you sure no infection, he said not. I got him to check tonsils and again said they were OK. I got the dehydration sorted out and galloped the bitch for 3/4 weeks everything was great so I took her to the track for a trial and back at the same drinking alot and peeing everywhere. I booked her in to get the tonsils out and she had her 1st trial back on Monday and no drinking and no peeing. It really made a job of her.

Brent, that is a good idea, as tonsillitis is not always obvious. The condition will make them drink a lot, too. We have had a lot of trouble with tonsillitis in the past, and if it recurs, we usually get them out, as it really affects the dog. Even the vets can be wrong by just inspection. A couple of years ago, we wanted a dog's tonsils taken out, but the vet argued that they were ok. However, we insisted, and when the vet took them out, he said that they were some of the worst infected he had ever seen. The dog came good and was pretty successful on the track, with no more excessive drinking issues. You can check something by yourself. There is a gland on either side of the dog's lower jaw right at the back. It is like a marshmallow. However, if the tonsils are infected, these glands will swell up and can be rolled around when feeling them. They will also feel firm to the touch. Check them out and see how you go. If you have the results of your most recent blood test, what were the haemoglobin and PCV (haematocrit) readings ?
Thanks Carole, i will have a poke around the lower jaw area. These are the readings. 27th March HCT: 56.8% HGB: 19.9 g/dl
13th February HCT: 52.6% HGB: 18.4 g/dl
19th January (on drip) HCT: 63.5 HGB: 22.0 g/dl
17th January (2 days after trial roughly) HCT: 77 HGB: 27.4 g/dl
I can send the rest of it if that helps. There are also some WBCs that are out of whack too. Not sure what they have to do with it all. Many thanks Cheers Brent

Will send you a PM, Brent. Have you checked those two glands yet ?
Hi Carole. I think i have found the glands. Not 100percent sure. Feels about the size of a kidney bean. Sort of squishy, not rock hard. Will confirm with you in your message Brent

Hi Robynne After the trial she was searching for water constantly. During the 3 courses of antibiotics she was doing 2-3 litres a day and couldn't control her bladder at times. Now she is down to around 1 - 1.25 litres, but it's at normal intervals. For example she can go all night without a drink or wee and she just has a few good laps of water after food and a zoomie. This is over a full 24hrs not just morning- night. Its more than she used to drink but it has definitely improved. Ps. She slams her nose into the bowl as well so alot goes on the ground haha.
I've just been through this with a dog , it took a good 10-12 weeks but his kidney values are now acceptable. Don't stop her drinking because she's trying to heal her kidneys by constant flushing but make sure she's getting loads of Vytrate and ORAL VAM Paste. You just have to put up with the wee unfortunately
Hi Brent, Just wondering how you got on with your girl ? I just wanted to let you know I found some blood results from a boy who I had that was in total kidney failure - he was not meant to survive but he's now a fit 11 and 1/2 year old. His troubles were in early 2015. I just found some of his kidney Creatinine and Urea results.
