Nathan,
Of the BEST 5 Kibbles you refer to how many have a Greyhound on the Bag?
Domestic Dog Diets are not suited to Athletic Greyhounds.
Further, Cattle Dog, Sheep Dog Diets don't stack up either.
Sprint, Jog, lie down cant be compared to flat out for 30 to 46 seconds.
Again I will say, do Greyhound Trainers know what is in the Bag they purchase?
Take control of what you feed your Athlete.

I know of a trainer with a great strike rate. would not have kibble anywhere near his kennel. He uses day-old sourdough bread, brown rice virgin olive oil, sunflower, flax seed oil& Black tar his dogs look sensational and blood tests every two months show his dog's blood to be perfect. Ok he does use sardines , yoke of eggs & a magnesium tablet daily , plus his morning vegetable soup puree.yes he feeds roo with 12% fat.

Can you learn me wot the best rated 5 kibbles are . Doesnt matter weather they have a picture of a greyhound on the front. Im always looking to improve my methods unlike many on this thread. Also if you have time read page 2 of John konkes article on my last post. It doesnt have a picture on it either but I,m sure hes a vet

Hayden I read John Khonke's article with interest. Whilst you refer to it are you practising the Diets or are you simply puting it out there.

peter - every one is looking to improve performance, it is not the ease of use or storage of dry food that is enticing- it is really the consistancy of the product that makes sense

protien levels vary - i went to a kel greenough talk when he had high earner. the dogs bloods were out cause the 25% protien was too much for the system. at the time advance(by coincidence) had a 20% protien product that suited the dog perfectly.

i feed my dogs twice a day total amount approx 400 grms and a 100 grms of meat, on rest days it is not uncomon for the dogs to leave a small amount.
my dogs bloods on a regular basis are good but i dont go out of my way to compare them with other trainers
BUT if i could be satisfied that there is a better way i would probably have a look at it

My unsubstantiated view is that most trainers get complete kibble meals and treat the kibble as a low protein product throw in the meat and what ever and claim their diet is balanced cause it has 750 grms of meat and thats probably worse than most modern day dry food diets

Hayden congrats on your strike rate with breeding and racing.

I'm agreeing with you all the way because I witnessed the bloke across the road from me do it and win a city race. I had bought my first greyhound and was doing the opposite and was going trialing and walking with him and his 3 dogs every day.

I nearly fell out the stand when he won that race at Olympic Park with his dog over the long, as I too thought those 'better fed' more professionally trained dogs would beat his. How wrong I was!

BUT you know what the naysayers are going to say.......when was the last time a vet trained a dog? Haha.

Good topic Rohan.

Spot on post ! Which is why Id never tell anyone to switch anything they are doing that they think or know their dogs are thriving !

I personally have never attempted a full kibble diet except for a week or 2 when whelping pups at 3 weeks old . Even then they are also on other natural supplements egg yolks yogurt milk etc .

If your dogs are performing , they are performing ? Leave it , others have success doing it in reverse where meat is the main percentage and kibble the minimal .

When I say top 5 , I mean groups of kibble that deliver for many reasons where advance just doesnt , from personal experience and study and choices of my own what I look for .

Personally if Im buying a bag of anything from $100 + , if I buy a chicken bag coz I dont want more beef , I want the bag only to contain this ?

Advance and many others if you read the ingredients on the bag some list other meats that Im not even after or what is says Im buying on the front ???

Reason being is during the process of being made , other meat contaminates can occur , so by law if theres a trace of this foreign meat other then whats advertised they could be sewed in cases of adverse affects .

You and others might go who cares ?? Where I go your kidding arent you ? If I buy a Big Mac , I want a Big Mac , not half a fillet of fish crossed with a Big Mac !

Theres plenty of kibble manufactures that deliver this simple equation , advance isnt one of them , and hey lets not forget the kibble they had to recall due to sickness and death in cats and dogs a few years ago !

Theyve been around for ages hayden and now theres so many more choices with supreme vitamin packed options , grain free , vegetables (sweet potatoes, beans ,beet pulp ,kelp etc and rice that I believe are worth atleast a chance or trial period . Youll know in a couple of days if its a hit from their waste .

I use a blend of kibble 50/50 due to price and richness levels and also change kibble a few times a year as a change seems to add a little kick and they seem to thrive extra for a while when I implement change.

Go to the shop next kibble buy up time where theres at least 10 different bags available and read the ingredients and whats advertised on front , youll soon see who delivers on whats actually advertised! Youll also see the difference in variety of supplements in the bag compared to advance .

One thing is for certain , I bet all your dogs dont leave one piece in the bowl , I had 1 in 3 that wouldnt even touch advance . Too big and like rocks even after soaking . The Smaller pieces the better !

On top of this , if your not using black tar , give it a go ! Ill bet you a grand your coats will have never feel better within 48 hours . Its one of the best products youll ever use .

Good luck anyhow

Ryan
If that race was won at Olympic Park it was in the mid 1990s.
Sports Science has come a long way since then.
Raelene Boyle, Mat Shirvington, Brett Lee and Co were eating out of Weeties packets.
Greyhound Diets were Kibble Meat and 4 X 2 Biscuits, all Trainers were feeding the same Diet.
Today there are alternatives.
Its not about winning the odd race, Its about consistency.
Many good Greyhounds have gone to G.A.P due to Trainers feeding with tunnel vision.

Yes agree Peter, but if you put yourself in Hayden's shoes, he is achieving consistency. It wld be v/hard to change his mind with what he's raced and bred. Just my opinion.

Hayden Gliders what rubbish did I write.
The dog was on brown bread was changed over to eukunaba lost lengths put back onto brown bread and ran a track record 2 starts later.
My point was you can win and break track records on brown bread.

Thank you, Nathan. I love it when BT gets mentioned by the small guys, yes I could go on about Andy and Steve White plus many more top trainers in the UK who swear by BT.
Cheers Jack.

Gayle Lemin if I have offended you I apologise in my mindyou were crediting the change back to bread for the track record, no mention of how the dog went prior to the eukunaba, no mention of injuries, dogs enthusiasm, weight or other issues. I would be looking back in my training diary and attempting to emulate the routine with other dogs. Failing that I can only assume that the bread baker served his apprenticeship at the tabgha bakery on the shores of the Sea of Galilee

No drama jack !
As good as Black tar is jack , your laser is the ultimate tool , wouldnt be in the game if I didnt have it ! The dogs love their nighttime laser sessions . They hear me beeping away setting up the hand held magic wand and they all lye there with one eye open thinking is he coming here to treat me ! Lol such a good tool where the dog doesnt even move or disturb the kennel whatever the hour and they enjoy it ! As apposed to taking em out , lifting them on a table they hate ?

Best tool in the cupboard by far !

Thanks jack
