Do you have questions regarding the health of your greyhound? Do you need tips what you should feed your dog? Or do you need advice in curing an injury?
Cheers Karen & Howard, We get our dogs checked out by June Whyte and she is magic i have looked into this in the past and was curious to see if it would show up. After a visit to junes i would know where injurys /running soreness should show up.

Damien if your fortunate enough to have June checking your dogs you don't need to even think about a Thermal Scanner....

Will do, and yes we are very lucky, we think she is amazing the way the dogs respond to her you are very confident with where your dog is at. This is why i thought after wards you would know whether or not a thermo scan was worth it.
there are thermal scanners and thermal imagers....one for about $4-5k and one for about $55k and upwards....give totally different over views,and im sure tommy wouldnt part with $55k plus. one will be used to try and pinpoint an injured area, whereas the genuines are like MRI's and show the skeletal and body of the animal(and humans)
unfortunately the lady karen gave me had her scanner camera stolen in cranbourne race track when working on a horse for a trainer and never got back into it again.

have her visiting this week so for those interested in this technique,will post what the outcome is.
the reason im prepared to try is one dog has an alignment problem and so far no one has been able to correct it...he is striking himself so bad, so feel i need to see if a problem i suspect when he was being reared,is influencing him now.
for an full scan,$150... can be broken down into sections providing you know the extent and area. there are procedures you must follow in not allowing overheating or cooling,but done in the kennels or somewhere quite and preferably away from being to excited...all about heat etc;
im looking forward to it and will be doing 2 dogs,but them im a radical and will try anything before giving up.
actually karen, jane will do a deal if 2 or more dogs,but you need to negotiate...she comes from HUNTINGDALE so i made her trip worth it.
typical.... arranged for a 12 noon meeting here at my place,set the dogs up already for it so they are calm etc;...still 3 hours away...you must be kidding me!!!!!!!!
forget it try another day...so for those who may have been interested in the outcome,the news is....THERE IS NO NEWS.

I did a heap of research last year. You need to pay around $25k for something to give a good resolution. Main thing I got out of my research was machine means stuff all if you cannot read the images. You need to set parameters to get accurate results. GRNSW was doing research with UTS but I am still waiting on the feedback they got. I had University of Queensland arranged to help me set parameters but then got side tracked. I had to allow about $50k to buy machine, 12 month course in reading images and setting parameters.
I also am interested if anyone is using this technology.

Rob, I as well have been looking into this technology (for some time and having taken courses am somehow a registered thermographer) and it is clear that Australia are years behind the times. We have to be led by the equine industry and adapt this to greyhounds via trial and error in Australia. Setting parameters is not an option as I have found a huge difference and false readings when it comes to fawn v black v white v blue, even thick and thin hair makes a difference to parameters and so on.It seems that scanning injured dogs V sound dogs is the way to know what you are actually looking for. Having said that, I have found injuries in my own dogs that otherwise would have gone unnoticed and untreated. I have found it more useful finding smaller stress related injuries that may lead to breakdowns before they occur if I was to keep them in work. Still lots to learn, but am happy with what I have learnt thus far. Time will tell....

Thanks Rich that is interesting. Could I ask without being intrusive is the figures I was given in regards to purchase anywhere close at $20-25k.
As getting a dog checked west of Bathurst is near impossible I think this technology is the go. Obviously you would still need to get dogs checked monthly for piece of mind.

Rob, no where that much mate,,, still a few triple zero's but weighing up a city win or 2 stake money for piece of mind when checking dogs, it was well worth it.... Training is the key though, knowing what to look for makes a world of difference.Even then, some injuries stick out like dogs balls in the snow! It has been an expensive exercise,but has changed the way I will train for ever. Greyhounds being pretty fragile creatures, the need for a 20k machine that will do a horse is not needed. (even though the experts say it is)(Hang on,,,, I am now a registered expert,,, lol) Rich. I ran 4 dogs up the straight at Bendigo today.... just a 300 meter run onto a hand held lure. Scanned them all before getting into the wash bay... ONE showed up a hot wrist (Well they were all hot, but this one wrist glowed) I now know to give this one a spell and treat his wrist rather than run him again later in the week. Not clinically sore but I can see for myself that there is a problem there! Not to say my dogs will not break down in a race, but if I can at least pick up an injury before it becomes an issue, I will be pretty satisfied.
