One of my brood bitches that i keep at home has become a VERY fussy eater.

I am wondering if anyone out there has some tips on things i can try?

She is not in pup so that is not the problem!

they wont starve themselves to death.

i had one that was so bad it went 7 days without eating once. u wouldn't have had a clue if u saw her on day 7, running around like normal, but if u didn't give her what she was in the mood for then she'd just wander off and prefer to go without.

cooked sausages, beef, $13 mince. the same food she'd eaten hundreds of times before.

but its a very frustrating thing, cause if u let her break u and u start to buy fresh bbq chicken, or cook some good steak etc. it just seems to make them more fussy imo. and it can cost u heap$ too.

Ben going through the same thing at the moment with one of my broodies who is a month away from whelping.
She has gone very fussy with eating at moment, have found she is enjoying more pasta and sardines at the moment for breakfast and she has gone off kibble which I have replaced with pasta one night and wholemeal toast the next night.

She only eats what she wants.

sometimes if u can pretend u r eating it yourself and just hand her a tiny little bit at a time it can get them started and then put the plate on the ground.

it use to work alot.

I lived with a woman once and all she would do is eat NOODLES. When I cooked her a T BONE STEAK she would knock me over to get at it. Try that with the B/BITCH

Ben, I'd try roast chicken with her as that never fails. If that does you may have to take a trip to the vet as something more sinister may be happening health wise.

To get some weight back on a fussy dog i used a cheap spag bol pasta sauce ( after i gave him some leftovers one day and he went mad for it)with some pasta mixed with his red meat meal... worked ok for a few weeks( think he worked out he was being conned with black n gold el cheapo) made him think he was having human tea l.o.l
sardines with porridge works well too

Ben, I've found they will eat chicken necks (raw) and also the cooked loaf that the pet shops sell - meat, pasta, rice etc. Advance puppy dry food is also another favorite (eaten dry).

I had a dog once that wouldnt eat unless she thought she was pinching it and not ment to have it, i use to leave her tea in the wetting yard or near the meat fridge and she would sneak up to it, look around and get it into her quick smart, the things we do, if it was one of our kids they would have to go to bed without lol.

My broodie went off her food after being on season this time even tho she wasn't mated - just like last time when she was in pup. I have found that when off their food for this reason they seem to have a revulsion of fat. The only thing she would eat was the $12 per kilo "heart-smart" no fat mince from the butchers. Once the pregnancy cycle time span was over she got back to normal and eats anything.

The other experience I have had of this sort of thing was a bitch who was sulking because she wanted more attention. She would eat when I sat down withe her and made a fuss of her and fed her by hand a little at a time (that one's now a pet living with one of my workmates!)

I had 15 PF pups and all would eat your hand, got 2 still here and no change at all, I also have Fear Zafonics brother and he trys to eat from the bowl as it is being placed on the ground.

So to answer your question. NO I dont think its the Breed
