Is there anyone who has any suggestions at all what to do with dogs who burst open the end of their tails?

Apart from the obvious things, ie put a roller on the end to stop it wagging etc...

Is there any thing you can put on to help heal as well, any forms of powder or the likes?

Cheers

Yes Craig, Friar's Balsam. This has a styptic action, will seal off the broken blood vessels, and heal the tissue. A hair roller is a good idea while it is healing. When it has healed, use a small amount of vaseline or similar on the end, as the FB tends to leave the skin a little dry.

Thanks Carole, will try this one.

These things are my worst nightmare, once they start there just seems to be no way of fixing them 100%... had a couple had their tails off but that is not really ideal and dont want to go down that route again if avoidable.

Carole is spot on, but feel free to add some betadene to the FB (mix them) and it wont dry out as fast and also helps keep it infection clear.

Agreed, amazing stuff, with great astringent properties, works a treat on tails.

Is it best to mix betadene liquid with the friar's balsam, or could you put the FB on and then smear some betadene cream on?

Not the liquid, Bruce, the brown ointment, I think Richard was referring to. I think he meant mix them together before putting it on, but I am sure he will come back on and tell you.

The main thing is to stop it from happening again so u need to pad the kennel walls with carpet, rubber or something soft otherwise it will keep Recurring
