Yes , I think if you pay for a straw you shouldnt even have to nominate a bitch. It should not be the stud masters business what bitch you want to put it too or when. Thats why its frozen , otherwise there are other options for mating. You paid asking price for the straw, so now its yours. The situation may change and you may decide on a totally different bitch. Or offer it on pup deals for a bitch that you particularly like. So many variants. You dont buy a car and be told what you can and cant do with it. I do like Aussie and this is not an attack on him , hes a great sire. JMO. Cheers

I respect all views, but I think as a stud master we need to make the decisions we feel sustains Aussie, helps us go where we want to take him, and support our everyday breeders looking for his outcross and performance, without prices having sky rocketed to rapidly.

The price of $3300 has been there for a long time, and it is only because of these same conditions having been in place for most of this period. Without those conditions, we would likely be far more expensive.

It comes down to a choice of this:

- loosen conditions, there will be a lot more sales, we will likely not sustain supply to demand, stock becomes short, price rises prematurely (or we work Aussie at a pace that does not suit him, which we would never do)

OR

- do what we have done for quite a while now, and that is, tighten conditions so the vials go to the breeders on the ground requiring the vials then and there for their breeding programs, when they need them, for their bitch on or due on season, at a reasonable consistent price that has not accelerated too rapidly... meaning the breeders can get value and a return for their efforts

I speak to breeders most days, and I know which they would prefer. Supply when needed and at a price that has not sky rocketed.

It is a pity he was not identified by the market earlier, at one stage there were only a small number of vials sold for many months and we hardly worked him, now days we seem to sell more than we produce.

He is 9 years old, not a freshman. That brings its own challenges. To date we have successfully navigated that, he is averaging 9.00 pups a litter so far this year and touch wood, zero misses. Last year we averaged 7.31 pups /litter , well above industry norm, just 3 misses on 97 inseminations, thats 97% pregnancy rate. We like to think there is more than luck involved there and we don't want that luck to run out any time soon. Those conditions help achieve those results. No breeder wants misses or very small litters, nor do we.

It is not as black and white as I have put it here, you can argue against most points, I realise that, but this is the path we have chosen to go down, where we see a balance, and to date, most breeders are happy.

cheers.

You and Geoff have done a great job with Aussie and his stats back that up , and these steps youve taken is assisting future breeders wanting him in years to come !

Havent seen a more professional sire that delivers the goods in terms off successful inseminations and pup numbers on top !

I could rattle off other sires who are in a free for all bonanza hand out and price hike where the results are kidding with qualified vets even supporting and questioning the quality !

Thanks again guys for my 10 healthy awesome pups with promising reports already at only 9 months old !

Keep it up , Ill be lining up again for sure !
Nothing beats a trust worthy stud master imop

Great interview on Going Greyhounds with Steve Shinners on the chances of ELECTRIFIED (joint favourite with Elite Machine, also x Aussie) in the G1 Perth Cup. Steve talks about the attributes of this greyhound - his chase, very very competitive nature and hopefully the improvement in him for the week ahead (29.63 in his heat, Elite Machine fastest 29.55).

Is the allowable quota 54 straws a quarter? Wot sort of number do you expect from the dog from here on?
How strong is his semen?

Would you care to name the vets that when semen is transferred to will negate the return service promise or is it the transporter that is the issue?

Cheers hayden

greyhound australasia advises that there are approx 225 aussie straws
in australia.
you advise that last year there were 93 litters & 3 misses

it says that there is sufficient stock on hand to last in excess of 28 months (assuming all are owned in house). with out the need to draw another straw. Current market value $742500 gst inc

of course any of the 225 that have been sold could very well affect future intended price rises via sale on the secondary market

restrictions on future purchases ???

Hi Hayden.
Your assumptions as to our own stock level is hopelessly inaccurate .
Aussie has always been drawn at way over minimum levels to benefit breeders, at our detriment (but which probably reflects in his exceptional pregnancy rate and litter size).
Aussie is currently spelling and will be for a while . His future drawing will be done at our discretion with the welfare of the dog our focus (he is also a family pet).
As to our conditions of sale, they are well intended, but if you dont like them, simply dont buy.
I wont be responding to your future posts . All the best.

Good luck Team Shinners , team Williams, Breeder Tristan Dale on their boys Electrified and Elite Machine tonight .

It takes a lot of good decisions and hard work to achieve the milestones necessary to develop dogs of this calibre and then win your way into a Perth Cup final and be equal favourites for the event .

Both dogs win, lose or draw have done their connections and us proud.

Good luck !

In a rough run Perth Cup final Elite Machine and Electrified didn't shirk the task at all and handed Aussie Infrared a quinella as a sire. Congrats to connections

Both boys are joined with Shes a Pearl, Victor Damien and Fernando Mick in having earned spots in the $500,000 Sandgroper on April 14. Unfortunately thag almost certainly means we wont see them contend the Golden Easter Egg in Sydney. Hopefully we get to see them In Sydney later in the year for the MDC.
The Aussie flag will likely be flown by 10 time Wenty winner Fascinate Mel in the Egg series, while hopefully we might see some star pups in the Wenty Magic maiden and Launching Pad series in coming weeks .

What a wonderful job Aussie is doing, absolutely on fire the last few weeks!
I firmly believe the Aussie train is only just starting to really gain momentum.
I cant wait for my Aussie Infrared X Potent pups (Barcia cross) hit the track in the coming months.
Also, only 3 weeks to go until our other litter Aussie X Eva One (Barcia cross) litter hit the ground.

Keep up the unbelievable work Aussie and Micheal!

Thats what his sire Bella Infrared did ! Seems to have acquired this great and rare trait ! Only American sire to throw full litters ! Remember seeing him above 33% , which really blows anything off the park .

Great bang for your buck ! When your sire is averaging 9 pups

Go Aussie
