It is great to see Brandywell racing tonight the Greyhound people should be very proud they have stuck in where all there years the Greyhound people in Derry are great people I wish them the very best
BIG EXCITEMENT AT DERRYS OPENING NIGHT Michael Fortune
There was a very good response to the first meeting at the brand new Brandywell Track in Derry on Thursday night.
Manager Michael McLaughlin said, It was a brilliant night and there was a great atmosphere. Everybody appeared to be very positive and it was just great to see dogs running around the Derry track again.
The first winner at the new venue was the Cyril OHagan owned Ghetto Leader (Scolari Me Daddy/ Esker Jill) which won easily in 17.04 for the 300 yards.,
Best run over the sprint distance was the 16.51 from the Declan Crossan trained, Georgina Gibbons owned Rosshill Rocket (Head Bound/ Leamaneigh Lisa).
Fastest over the 500 yards was Anthony Armstrongs Jaguar Jack (Taylors Sky/ Fuerty Flash) which won by two and a half lengths in 27.91.
Racing will be staged from Mondays until the pool of greyhounds is sufficient to warrant two meetings per week.
Please note the following openings for the track moving forward.
Racing will be held on Mondays from 8 - 9.30, a session of qualifying trials will be held immediately after racing.
Thursday's will be reserved for schooling trials from 7 - 8 & qualifying trials from 8 - 9.
Saturday's will be for schooling trials from 10 - 12, depending on the weather we may need to apply additional water to the track this may impact on our starting time.

* Greyhound Racers 300 yards competition, for 18 dogs @ 10 each that have not bettered 16.90 at Derry (equivalent elsewhere). winner 300 (dependant on entries).
The competition will commence on Monday 30th April.
