I can't find a topic on this dog, but he's a deadset ripper. Steve his trainer is a champion bloke and deserves a huge rap for his efforts with him. It was only a matter of time before he had a champion in his kennel.

Just want to wish him all the best in the big Final. Congratulations mate on the success so far, keep up the great work.

I think Grant would be pretty happy to see this damline at the top again ---> CLICK HERE

I believe the owner/trainer donates 10% of all prizemoney to a charity.

Good luck in the Million dollar final.

He's the best dog in the race, but out of the 8 box I don't know if he's the dog to beat. One thing I will say he's the dog that everyone in Australia (that isn't a owner/trainer of a rival) will be cheering for

Looks like we will both be on Tommy on Sat night Sandro,i also think he is the best boxed dog in the field & a touch too strong from the top turn to the post, although I do think Ricciardo is boxed to lead him into the first turn, with Shadow Mist right up their " clackers " going thru the pen.
Sure to be a fantastic race, best of luck to all involved.

The Sydney Cup on the other hand could be a tricky race to find the winner,on their best form,i could see 4-5 dogs capable of winning.

Im also on Tommy.
I backed him at $7.50 before Semi.
This is the one race where i dont expect the first turn leader to win this race.
Tommy will need to get around the first turn and avoid being hampered.
There is speed in 1,2 & 3 and im worried Tommy could be 3-4 wide going into the first turn.
If the 1 jumps like he did in the Semi and get a clear run he could be hard to catch.
Flying Ricardo is Near a faultless begginer and i thought his Semi win was amazing. He had to dig deep to hold off those seasoned dogs and for such a young dog he really impressed me the way he chased and kept finding.
Go Tommy.

Go the Peaky "F@#$ing" Blinder tonight.

I haven't been this excited about a race for over a decade.

Wins a heat of the Australian Cup by 7 lengths at the Meadows in a flying 29.506 BON....4 lengths quicker than any of the other 7 heats.

If he can run 5.2 to the first peg could be all over .Im hoping my good client Corey Grenfell can have a bit of luck with the Tonk. (7)

Jack Ogilvie ,
With all due respect Tommy Shelby is the quicker dog between him & Tonk imo , If Tonmy pings out of the boxes the final is his for the taking , he reminds me of Hooked On Scotch with the freakish ability he has but in terms of box draws he's like Dyna Double One extremely unlucky / shafted with bad boxes.

Incredible chasing and track sense. Like a fine wine he's getting better with age.

Congratulations Steve, so happy for you and the family.

In Australian racing how are the live speeds of the dogs determined? Is it often shown on screen or just at major races like Australian cup?

Paul,

Its all part of the UTS study of track designs and has been used on and off at Meadows for some months now. The speeds vary from 67 m/sec down the back to 57 m/sec at the post plus or minus a bit.

The recording comes from GPS markers on the rugs. (Tasmania uses them for horses, too).

How they apply the results is a mystery to me as many factors affect what each dog does during a race boxes, interference, dogs habits, etc and comparisons would be difficult.

Some UTS work has been good mostly increasing track cambers but other stuff like tight drop-in boxes at Horsham and Shepparton have not helped with falls and interference.

Added to which is that Meadows is a more circular shape anyway, which is why it is harder than normal to win from the outside there unless you can jump in front (as Fernando Bluey did), so test results will be biased for that reason alone.

Further to Bruce's explanation Paul, here's a photo of the dog's vest.

Aussie rules footballers have been using this form of tracking into the back of the jumpers to see how far they run in a matches for quite a few years now. It's a good innovation and just shows how fast the greyhounds can go. I haven't seen a 70km yet but very close by Tommy Shelby and Fernando Bluey in their Aust Cup heats.
