Kevin
We travelled around for a year over there and visited most tracks. When enquiring about possible broods, the common theme was if we could possibly acquire girls from the Greymeadows damline - Mary and Jack Butler - as almost guaranteed success with their very strong damline. After introductions and discussions we were most fortunate to be able to meet Mary at the Abilene farm and decide upon our girls.

And yes Graham - the exciting Greys Calibrator won the Derby Lane Million - so it was wonderful to be able to purchase Greys Destiny her half sister - plus she goes back to Lear Jet dam of Representation.

Asked Mary if a Representation girl was possible and there was Greys Lemon Ice.

whose dam Greys Freeflight is a full sister to Greys Free Style, dam of Kinloch Brae
CLICK HERE
although at the time we were there, Kinloch Brae had only just retired from racing.

In 2009 a lot of Aussies thought we were maybe a little crazy to be trying this experiment, but the Americans gave it the thumbs up.

We just went along and did our own thing.
My health and now 4 foot operations meant we retired from hands on with the dogs, although Destini Fireball is in retirement with us.

Success is homework and hard work (and youth and good luck is always welcome!)

Thanks Norm
You have written your own piece of Greyhound history and it is well deserved .

If you don't mind i would like to pick your brain some more ..

How Did you rear your first group of pups from those girls .

Did you see anything special in any of the Destiny pups.

Did the pups display any traits that you or Janis seen throughout breaking pre training and then racing that was different to Full Aussie bred pups..

Thanks
Kev

Didn't see anything difference from any other keen and chasing well-reared pups. We were small scale compared to the many successful breeders.
Thousands of breeders breed and rear well with pups having plenty of galloping. But as competitive canine athletes, all comes down to what eventuates on the track.

One point though, we have found USA influence in breed, you have to allow for maturity to get the best result. Greyhound breeding is not an exact science - otherwise we would all be doing the same thing!

And as usual, with the topic of this thread - be very careful.

A lot of people will take your advice ..
I would love to write a book based on OTB perspective and how they established there Bloodlines ..

I guess we could do a Podcast show featuring a different OTB every week would this be something people would want to see ....unsure but we do need recorded history of all the Older OTB ...

Good luck Wade. Its one of the most rewarding things to do. Source a brood from another country...the long and major effort to import her. Then to pick her up after quarantine and begin the breeding journey. Good on you guys and others for helping diversify the gene pool!

You are a good judge Wade, i wish you the very best, having spent 59 years keeping a very close eye on the breeding of greyhounds the industry needs people like you to try and reverse the trend in Australia to keep breeding 300 mt short coursers. the numbers of these hounds has to be rising every year
Superior Tora , female line going back to Alive and well, 267 races 503 mt -622 mts, that is no fluke Wade
Further back you have Spectre 880 TR Brighton, i was at White City the night he was second to his litter brother Tric Trac in the Derby Final, from one of the best litters of that century. the staying power influence of Crazy Parachute ,Monalee Champion, Here Sonny should not be treated lightly,
Wade , you have all the right names in all the right places, i now wonder as to the Stud dog that you will go to, all the very best
