THIS YOUNG STAYER WITH JUST 3 STARTS OVER THE 7OO JOURNEY HAS WON THE LIZRENE TROPHY FOR TRAINER PAUL ABELA AND THE BAKER BOYS,I SAY YOU HAVE A YOUNG UP AND COMING SUPER STAYER ON YOUR HANDS,GOING ON TIMES ,WHICH IS SOMETIMES FOOLISH ,BUT ALL WE HAVE,HE HAS ECLIPSED THE GREAT STAYERS WE HAVE SEEN IN THE LAST FEW YEARS.
THE GREAT XYLIA ALLEN , RAN THE BEST TIME OF 41.70 AT SANDOWN AND SHE WAS NATIONAL DISTANCE CHAMPION
FOR A 2YR OLD YOUNG UP AND COMER TO RUN 41.49 IS FREAKISH,LETS HOPE WE SEE LOTS MORE OF THIS SUPER PUP IN THE THE COMING YEARS.
PS SORRY ABOUT THE CAPITOL LETTERS MY MISTAKE

Whoa back John.

Five Star did an excellent job in the Speed Star and 41.50 was impressive. But it came off 6 wins from 24 Starts and several placings behind good dogs, none of which were in spectacular time.

The test will be whether it can repeat the performance in full fields. So far it has not, although this top run came only 5 days after a good 2nd to Hank The Hustler.

Several dogs on Sandown Cup night have run those sorts of times in the past but even those (or most of them) have difficulty repeating the dose. They certainly did not in the Cup.

Xylia Allen ran some brilliant races - records (at the time) at Wenty, Launceston and Traralgon but was never able to repeat those times when backing up 7 days later - which is another test. Most dogs can't do that.

A bit closer to the top level would be Zipping Rambo's flying win over 595m Speed Star on the same night - that's twice a near record as well as its solid win in the Sandown Cup only 5 days ago.
C

hi bruce, yes what you say is correct, you can,t judge a dog on a couple of good run,s HERES TEARS,the track record holder of 41.16 in jan 20 ,but so far has,nt got near that in run,s there after,
but this young fellow likes the outside draw and drawn right will go on and make a name for himself in my opinion,
i love zipping rambo ,a great dog, i had him one out in the cup, would have been interesting ,had five star been in it,but like you say races are a whole lot different to 2 dog matches

Jeez, you're a tough man to please, Bruce.

He's only had three starts over 700, and the second in the Listed Cup Night Stayers was a listed affair with a full field, and his time in running second in 41:64 was top class.

Despite having only three runs over the distance, and each run being only a week apart, he improved each time he went over the distance - 42:32, 41:64, 41:50. I've seen posts of yours previously bemoaning the inability of today's stayers to back up, and your data supporting their slower times when running over the distance with only a week between runs. Yet, here is a dog which has successively run faster times over the 700 despite their being only a week between runs.

Isn't this the sort of stayer that you have been looking for?

It's okay to be positive occasionally, Bruce. Not everything has to be doom and gloom.

Cheers!

Its never too late to train a greyhound and get a feel for it because while you (the writer) continue to be critical of dogs and trainers, youll never understand what it takes to keep dogs racing even when they have reached their optimal level. Trainers make mistakes as do punters, computer analysts and story tellers (writers).

what do reckon bruce, has he got the ticker or what, he kicked their head,s in over the journey at Bendigo for another 75 large, he is only a very young dog, personally I don,t think there's a stayer at the moment as forward as him, wait till he goes interstate, exciting times to come, he does, not have to worry about the other dogs they got to worry about him, are ya with me bruce

what a run at Sandown
41.32 ,not many young dogs will ever get near that time, if he jumps near the front he,s nearly unbeatable, will be the dog to run down as we get near the end of a shit year

first run back after an enforced break, over a middle distance at Ballarat, this young fellow was half a lengh off the track record, coming out box 8 , sensational gallop, wait till he goes over more ground, what a freaky galloper to run 30.343 over 545metres first up, the record is 30.319
