Does anyone know just why Clonmel have been forced back to only one nights racing. Nothing on Talking Dogs. I would have thought this would be a major concern, especially to those who race their dogs at Clonmel.

I think it is because they have put prize money back up at tracks but have cut the number of races so it doesn't cost them more

Clonmel has a 25 year contract. So what has gone wrong? Clonmel needs their 2 nights a week to facilitate their owners. Not only that, they are one of the only tracks that have graded sprints.

It would appear there is a lack of interest in Clonmel. Their Thursday nights mostly catered for the lower grades and sprinters, where are these dogs going now. There is certainly not enough races available for the low graders and sprinters. Not only is this a welfare issue, but also lacks the encouragement for young people to enter the sport. Not everybody has good dogs or wants to travel miles, especially how things are starting to economically look.

Would it not be best to contact Clonmel Track to find out rather than go online. There is races for every grade at Tracks

Hi Carole. It seems to me that the real problem at Clonmel is the terrible grading which has been the case for many years. As an example just look at the results of the first two A5 races last Friday A5 dogs are not cheap to buy and then there are entrance fees, galloping and trial costs plus food and travel cost to the stadium only to find that your A5 grader didn't stand a cat in hells chance of coming in the first three. If the GRI were doing their best to discourage owners then they couldn't be doing a better job. Incidentally I notice that both Clonmel and Thurles are only running once a week which I guess that this is some sort of cost cutting exercise. I wonder if the CEO, the non executive directors and the management at Limerick have had their salaries reduced but I doubt it as presumably they can help themselves to a larger percentage of the 19.2 million subsidy handed out annually by Irish taxpayers.
