Hi Guys,

We have the hardest railer ever. One jump out of the boxes and a hard hard left. Any suggestions to 'help him go staight for a bit?

He does the same up the coursing at Lang Lang, so coursing won't help in my opinion.

God help the dogs on the inside of him, when he draws an outside box.

Dogs name is See Oliver if you want to watch the hard left on fasttrack.grv.org.au

Any advice would be appreciated

Cheers Carly

Hi Carly

From what Ive seen which is from limited time and not a GRP trainer I havent seen too many Poeple being able to change or correct a dogs running style or pattern etc

They are what they are and some get smarter or better with racing over time imop

To try and help or curb his trait or not encourage it , try straight tracking him with a drag infront of the boxes , like Appin or Capalaba style only and put him in box 1 so the drag should be outside his right shoulder , do it twice solo for confidence and a chance for him to find his pattern and get eye in

Then bait him the third time (him still in box 1 ) and with another dog in box 4 who u know will jump straight

This might encourage him to drift out to challenge him head to head
Twice also

Then go to track and slip him , but dont stand up off the track , stand as close down in the curb of the track close next to the arm ( without being hit ) so he runs straight when let go , as apposed to standing off the track and encouraging driving left coz your to far away from arm

If all this fails , throw it all away and stop doing target runs , try only call ups with no drag for a month , Ive seen call up dogs wonder all over the straight having a ball and do the same thing on the track

Doing only call ups with no target of drag may encourage him to relax and run free and with luck WIDE.

Good luck , but dont hold ya breathe

Thanks Nathan,

Much appreciated. I have some maiden heats nominated for the week. We'll see how that goes (just one more lol), and try as you've suggest. I was hoping as he got checked here and there he may straighten up but wasn't expecting it.

Thank you.

I agree with Nathan box 1 is good but sometimes two and three work better because their not a total reversal just a slight adjustment which can keep them keener and closer to the lure but teach them to run straight. Cheers

Turn the boxes around in a bullring and spin it reverse ways. Have the dog step out and step to the right. A very good friend told me this years ago and it does help some dogs straighten up a bit

I would get someone to check his testicles to make sure he is not getting caught up in that area. Just a thought as it can effect them. good luck
