I just found out GRV have revoked Peter Gavins licence to be involved with greyhounds. Peter is the best breaker and educator in Australia. Crocodile bite is testament to peters skill she walks into the boxes gets down and pings the lids.victorians will be stuffed when trying to get their dogs into a breaker. We will be a disaster like NSW .No breakers , No race dogs .GRV need to revue their decision for the betterment of the industry .I believe it's only a governance issue. So bite the bullet and handle this in a professional manner. Greyhound racing needs Peter, Kathleen, and James. Watch the prices go up now thats if you can get into a breaker.
Officially Jack peter handed back his licence in May 2022. He has not used any facilities outside of his own property and apparently the charges relate to him refusing an inspector entry to his property this year that was a relation of a family member Peter was at court with in relation to Geelong track. Probably heading to the supreme court like the Geelong case. Peter.

I just think it's so sad to lose such a quality educator and the best breaker in the industry it's we the owners who lose out. I must be old-fashioned thought GRV we're there to make Victorian racing better. Anyone who has used Peters's services will attest to how Peter cares for dogs that come back from his kennels. No strained wrists, metacarpals or tears. All are thoroughly clean in really good condition. I now have to try and find a breaker for my Tommy Shelby pup ,like trying to win Tatts lotto.. Cheers Jack.
How old is your Tommy pup jack ? I could have a spot at John martins this Nov if suits

Peter is the best breaker in the business by a long long way.

Supply and demand has to lead to price increases. Rearers and breakers have been undervalued for years now in my opinion. I remember you recently complaining about rearing fees, Jack. I couldn't disagree more. No good spending big coin on a pup and scrimping on rearing and breaking fees.

What I'm saying Is it will be hard to get a breaker in Victoria .The big boys are placing large blocks at a time and the little guys will be spat out.what the industry needs is more quality breakers not less.
Interesting that in Victoria trials at the 13 race tracks are free. Many participants argue that the breakers abuse the system and over use these free trials. This causes issues for trainers who cannot get trials for their race dogs. many participants dont believe that this system abuse by breakers and subsequent cost savings has ever been passed on to the owners. Have to ask why the price should increase. Just as well the price isnt linked to the boxing and chasing ability of the dog(s) following the break in process. Note too the number of failing to chase mentions in the stewards reports.

Hayden,1 of the reasons why so many are not 100% chasers is because people are breeding out of 'non chasing' damlines & then putting bitches to 'non chasing' sirelines. This is on top of no 'live game' & "many" not being 'teased' & therefore their natural instinct being stimulated in the rearing process. So many are reared in runs & sent to breakers with no solid foundation & or pre-education.
List the non chasing dam line and particularly the non chasing sire lines that got to be stud dogs. Im sure that Im not the only one that would be interest to know.

I am not going to do that on an open forum, as don't want to offend any/all concerned.

Put it this way, "ALOT" of sirelines in Oz do NOT have anywhere the chase of Brett Lee & Go Wild Teddy sireline, for example. There is 1 sire I could name, that when you go on Grv Dog search & go through his damline alot of them got time for failing to pursue etc. Yes, he has thrown a few "fast" 1's but ALOT of his pups will not go. And NO, I am NOT talking about "The King", Fernando Bale! lol

I'm willing to put it out there.
I've noticed as a generalisation that Sennachie can produce brilliant pups, but more than his fair share of iffy chasers. Speaking from personal experience and observation.

I think blaming the sire or dam or breeding from non chasers fighters is no argument for why we have so many of them running around fighters can throw very good dogs so can non chasers I think it comes down to rearing and what you teach them from day dot I often read on here how breeders compliment both sires and dams trying to breed out certain traits do your job well dont leave a stone unturned rearing is 90% then if you get the odd non chaser or fighter or just a slow dog well thats cricket but I bet gap numbers would be right down and as for naming a certain sire or dam I think thats a filthy thing to do in public like mum said you can think what you want not always good to say what you want.

As i pointed out, most 'commercial' rearers do very little with them.

Giving a personal assessment of a sire, is no worse than defending a now convicted criminal on a public forum. Well that's the way I look it anyway. Chacun pour soi.

thats shit talk paul the criminal you talk about has been convicted bit different about your personal opinion or experience you had with some pups that you say come from the sire is shit talk Ive got a litter of the same sire chase hard do everything right but if they cant run whos fault is that the sire or if they can run like the wind is it all the dam there are so many factors to rearing a fast dog end of the day cant blame anybody but you.
