GRV has shelved plans for the redevelopment of the Granbourne Greyhound Complex. It appears Victoria's Labor Government has emptied the States Money Box. Could it be the same Treasurer who costed the 2026 Commonwealth Games. EXTERNAL LINK

They are disgraceful at handling money, the current Labour Gov't in Vic. The Greens have their foot on Labour's throat in Vic. Worst thing they ever did with preferences & the Greens.

Been saying it for years Ryan
But rusted on Labor supporters are just blind to their threat
Labor is not what it used to be, its no longer a working man/woman's party
There may be factions in the party that have still got the original party's values at heart but they are getting overrun as they die off
Its now a bludger and freaks party...aligning themselves with the Greens just proves it

I guess it has a lot to do with current circumstances in S.A or is it just an excuse?
IMO and maybe I'm way off the mark, the industry could be operating well without Cranbourne. Then again, I believe the greyhound track is located inside the horse track. Funny, but not surprising on decision.
I know of a person who has commented on this post, agreed with tracks being closed in NSW. Be careful what you wish for.
In 2016, the Liberal / Nationals closed down greyhound racing in NSW. It wasn't Labor.
However, I believe it was the Greens who closed down the sole track in the ACT.
It's not one party. Besides, Labor in NSW will not close down greyhound racing in NSW.
When was the last time you heard a horse track being closed down?

Liberal was 7 years ago
Horses have a lot of wealthy and influential individuals including politicians from most camps involved in the sport. Its not going anywhere soon.
I did say there are some Labor factions working on the old values which were and still are much respected by a strong middle working class, however, that body of people are slowly getting disillusioned by some of the partnerships and thus policies they are making, especially with The Greens
Hopefully you are right about Labor NSW, I am not so sure about the Federal Labor guys, not with that foolish puppet Albanese in charge

Albo loves his sports, but not a punter per say. However, hes from humble beginnings so I doubt if he would worry us..

Mark, Labour in Vic is totally different from Labour in NSW from what I gather at the State level (not Federal), and that's what makes it so confusing.
Labour at the State level in Vic is aligned with the Greens and have been for some time.

It seems to me greyhound racing in Victoria under Labor is going well. Personally, I dont like Andrews.

The imbeciles wanted to shut greyhound racing down in Vic during Covid. Think Dan may have got a phone call from Morrison saying 'wtf are you doing ? The gambling industry is the only one that's keeping the country running'
Very quick backflip.
What was it Peter $9.6 Billion(not million) turnover for the Covid yrs from greyhound racing alone ? They have no idea when it comes to spending.

The revenue to the National economy from Greyhound Betting is $11 Billion. Then there is Stamp Duty and Taxes, GST, on Property, Motor Vehicles, Fuel excise, etc etc. Greyhound Racing produces vast revenue to the Victorian Government. I suggest Industry participants in the City of Casey Contact your Local Member and the Labor Government Racing Minister to voice your disapproval over the devastating effects on Greyhound Administrators, Staff, Trainers and Staff, Veterinarians, Produce Stores and other local Businesses and the broader community that will be caused without a Greyhound facility in Cranbourne.

I don't know where you get your numbers Peter. The Victorian Racing Industry (ie, all three codes), contributes $4.7B in gross value added to the Victorian economy according to the IER report released last year.
The VRI contributes just over $500m in tax revenue to the state government. Not sure of greyhound racing contribution, but it's not as much as you're suggesting it is.

Correction below Turnover NOT Revenue
The National BETTING TURNOVER from Greyhound Betting is $10.65 Billion. Then there is Stamp Duty and Taxes, GST, on Property, Motor Vehicles, Fuel excise, etc etc. Greyhound Racing produces vast revenue to the Victorian Government. Just one more reason the Victorian Government Money Box is empty
The Victorian government has agreed to pay Commonwealth Games bodies $380m in compensation after cancelling the 2026 event. The premier, Daniel Andrews, made the shock announcement last month that Victoria would not host the Games as planned due to concerns they would far exceed initial cost expectations.

The State Government costing of $14 Million appears to be misleading at best. Cranbourne Greyhound Club have an existing modern structure Kennel facility, shared recently refurbished Grandstand Dining building so just what does $14M buy when constructed by the Andrews Government.

Where did the $14M costings for Cranbourne Greyhound Track redevelopment come from??
TRARALGON. The first single-turn greyhound race track in Australia is on course for completion in Traralgon by the end of the year with majority funding contributed by the Andrews Labor Government.
Minister for Racing Martin Pakula confirmed a $3 million investment from the Victorian Racing Industry Fund towards construction of the J track, with Greyhound Racing Victoria contributing $2 million.
HORSHAM Horsham Greyhound Racing Club track redevelopment to ... The Wimmera Mail-Times EXTERNAL LINK ... Local Footy 12 Sept 2014 GRV will fund much of the redevelopment, expected to cost between $3 and $4 million. Mr Brilliant said the track's redevelopment, along with ...
SALE The Sale Greyhound Racing Club is on the verge of wrapping up an extensive racetrack renovation project, which has spanned over six months and cost a staggering $4 million.
HORSHAM This ambitious project is part of a larger five-year, $50 million investment aimed at elevating the racing environments for greyhounds, participants, and spectators alike.
And so it appears there WAS a Money Box for Greyhound Racing Redevelopments, since emptied to compensate for an Election Carrot to Ballarat, Geelong, Traralgon and Bendigo Voters, with a promise of new Sporting facilities in their Regional zones for the 2026 Commonwealth Games. Since abandoned and compensation payout to the tune of $380M
