Was in there yesterday, track now mown quite short probably for the inspection the other day. I didn't have a look at repairs. Where we are at overall I don't know, RQ has advised of a travel subsidy for local trainers to race elsewhere after next Wednesday.
Without starting a shit fight what would be the best prepared grass track in NSW?

Muswellbrook would be on par with Bundaberg as it had a complete redevelopment not long ago as well.

Hi,
Would anyone have an update if return to racing and trialing at Bundaberg is tracking as per plan or should we be preparing for a further delay.

Thanks.

Hi Brian,
Racing Queensland informed me this morning they are going to circulate an industry announcement today.
At this stage racing will not commence on the 30th, but trialing will. Racing will commence as soon as possible there after, having regard for the impact trialing has on the track.

No guessing whose dogs will get a privileged invite to the trial session.Nepotism still reigns supreme at Bundy.

Below is an update from Brenton Scott after an email this morning, Im not sure why the club cant put out a few updates. Maybe its just a knowledge is power thing.

The track is very close. RQ had it extensively tested and has undertaken a range of treatments, including fungicide and fertilizing whilst getting the grass to its optimised height for safety and cushion and bedding in the root system in the areas that had been stripped.

RQs Dave Meier has been on site for the past two weeks. The previous contractor has moved on. A new curator has been recruited and is undergoing induction under David. The track is in very good condition and RQ and the club are attempting to have it return to racing in a condition that will enable it to endure the impact of consistent weekly racing and trialling.

I am still waiting on final inspections, QRIC sign off etc.

But, accepting that, a small number of private trials are expected to be undertaken next week for testing purposes. Public trials in the week beginning November 13 and racing on November 20, all being well. Again subject to final inspections and the progress of trials but, having inspected the track personally on October 29, I hold high levels of confidence in the suggested timetable.

Public advice anticipated for Monday.

Even if its not on the current agenda, at a minimum RQ should commence a comprehensive change management process to convert the track from grass to loam specific to the area. Last thing Bundaberg needs is a shoot from the hip decision.

Hopefully out of this we can identify any challenges or issues and put the right controls in place before moving forward. Its Participants that feel direct pain to their back pocket from re-work.

Most info we've had for a while, thanks Nathan. I wouldn't hang my hat on anything coming out of the club, some there said there was nothing wrong with the track and chose to tell trainers that they should cut toenails to curb injury.
This current refurb proves there was an issue, just too bad the club decided to take the ostrich approach and the timeline continues to blow out.

Seems as though my instincts were right. Track renovations done on "tight" budget.

Reports are that private trials were held today, and from a visual point of view the surface looked like it was longer with a thicker coverage than has been seen in a while.

With the cost blow out of the new Purga complex, be interesting how much will be
left in the kitty for the other Qld tracks.

There needs to be a reassessment about the track surface re.grass length and how lush it looks.Longer grass does not promote strong and healthy root growth and that's the starting point for any grass. If the plant puts all its energy into upward growth you end up with a plant that lacks vigour. Visit a turf farm. Constantly mowed the right amount of fertiliser and water to get maximum strength into the root system. A stronger root system also holds your soul together much better to overcome the constant use and hence less divots or damage.Other exams are golf greens and bowling greens. The track will never hold up if longer grass length is regarded as the norm. For the doubters take note of hedge row plants, the Murraya or Mock Orange a great example.Trimmed regularly to promote leaf density. It ain't rocket science.

The grass should have been replaced with sand/loam.
