In my opinion, you breed it, you buy it, you race it, it's your responsibility. If the industry can process the dog for you that's a bonus, not a right.
Luke thank you for your honest and what people don't want to hear is the truth.
When you are winning the races and collecting the cash spare a thought for whats waiting for you at the end of the rainbow.
Just Saying.

that fine but most owners and trainers are hobby greyhound people ,

the thing that hasnt been thought of , when we place a dog into gap,

witch in return adopt them out, but there only so many people who can

adopt a dog,

most dogs retire at four years so for the new owner dosnt wont another

dog for about twelve years,

and with cost of thing today most owner and trainers can only afford so many dogs.

gap is not working , or not able to take dogs in.

the rules have force most into a corner, nowhere to go'

so with in two years there wont be enough dogs to fill meetings,

look here in vic small fields now.

and on top of that we have council regulation. how many dog one can have on your property.

so it that easy is it victor

The title of the thread is that this problem will close greyhound racing.
I don't think that will ever happen.
BUT
What I can see is the closure of a whole heap of country tracks and racing will only continue in the City tracks and perhaps a few major provincials. It will become 100% professional so the hobby trainers will be no more. Regulations will make it impossible for the part time breeders to breed. Prizemoney will go through the roof, syndications will be a major part of ownership.
And hobbyists who leave the game will be contracted to use their properties as rehoming centres.
Sorry, it's not what I want but it is what I can see and I'm talking within 5 years.

City, you mean Richmond?

They have been closing tracks since 2017 and before that date, and under the plan (forget the name they used) they only want fourteen tracks (120 t'bred tracks in NSW and not one has closed) and made into Centres of Excellence. Some so far have not satisfied the criteria the industry has used to make them such. Instead, they have done makeovers for some of those tracks.

I guess the Orange proposal will have the land to actually make it a genuine Centre of Excellence which will probably start operating in 2027.

A retirement farm at the industry's and individual's (discounted) cost is the way to go. The Denman project was too good to be true. Did they do their due diligence for it?

Lets not point fingers and lets just come up with a solution or an idea which can help

There are other places that you can reholm your greyhound not just gap. Everyone wants their dogs reholmed but how many donate to these places on a weekly basics not just a one off to get your dog in there. If everyone donated a percentage of prize money it would help them to take in more than they can now..

Lol. You are funny. We have been in it together for at least seven years. Some would argue since 2012 or even the early 1990s.

You have to be accountable for your actions and see where you went wrong or right. Otherwise, youre destined to make the same mistakes. The industry cant keep on making the same bad decisions at a major cost to it. You got to call it out instead of sweeping it under the carpet.

I gave you a solution. Ive given many solutions.. on other threads. WP will be gone by 2027 if not sooner.

Build two Retirement Homes out western NSW (south-west / north-west), where it is cheaper and zoned properly at a small cost to owners. The larger cost is absorbed by the industry (us the participants).

Reduce the number of stewards at meetings to two instead of three to four at a cost of $120k each steward p.a.. However, keep a few casuals and use them when needed or available.

Reduce the Deputy Commissioners from two to one at a cost saving of approximately $250k p.a.

Where possible, use local workers instead of bringing them up / down the highway to meetings (I'm told kennel staff get paid to travel e.g. two hours each way at a rate of $60 p/h). Surely there are some locals who can do the work? I note there isn't any problem with them and I have seen a reduction in the number of the out of towners coming to meetings.

Provide trainers with appearance money at a rate of $80-$90 for first dog and $60-$70 per dog thereafter. That way, it helps the hobby trainer with one or two dogs (petrol is a minimum $1.98 per litre and won't be coming down any time soon).

Keep decent country tracks open for slower dogs. Put more masters races on at non-TAB tracks and deliberately not schedule many of them at TAB tracks, but increase the p/m for non-TAB to make it suitable. Have match races at these tracks, etc. Wauchope could have held Heat and Finals this month (increased p/m for final), but for some reason they never did.

Keep grass tracks open for racing because not all dogs like racing on loam. If the footy can have Magic Round and flog a field then why can't we have grass tracks that are sustainable in colder months? It used to happen before without many cancelled meetings.

These are just a few. Look at my other thread as many ideas have been recorded by trainers, owners, breeders, etc over seven years.

Interesting that GWIC have emailed all owners with this information today; just a few days after this topic was started.

At least they're following this site; even if they don't have a clue how to fix this HUGE problem.

The start of the problem is the huge breeders who take up many of the rehoming options.
There has to be say $200 per pup for breeders who have more than say 80/100 per year. This money should be used to rehome more dogs.

Hey Jack, that is another good idea. I think we all need to be responsible in some way even if it does mean splashing some cash towards the problem. I agree with Victor that you if you buy or breed its your responsibility and that never used to be a problem, but Im in that situation now where Id like to buy another pup but cant until I find a spot for my current one, and Im not even talking rehoming, just a trainer. I mentioned some time ago on another thread that I thought that 10% of a stud dogs service fee and 5% of the sale of a pup and a percentage of fees such as naming etc to go to a fund for rehoming and Ill now include yours. If we could generate funds to give to new owners of retired hounds as an incentive to help care for the dog would be a good step forward. Incorporate some of Lukes ideas as well as Mark Donahues points and we may be heading in the right direction. We are all responsible but maybe in a slightly different way. JMO. Cheers

I understand about those injuries but surely these days we should be able to create a good grass surface to race on. and then you have loam. I have noticed serious injuries (fractures front n rear) on both surfaces lately. More on loam tracks because we race on them more often.

They (grass tracks) should not be a thing of the past trainers want and need them to race their dogs. Most trainers love trialling at Cessnock and Wauchope and both are grass tracks.

At present GRNSW management are not listening to the concerns of owners & trainers as is reflected by the allocated spends.
We have seen massive legal costs spent on unrealistic legal actions with no hope of success & a retainer to a legal firm ( surely a conflict of interest for our GRNSW CEO)which should not be paid let alone $100,000 a year.
It would be nice to know how much & what percentage is allocated to rehoming endeavours per year at present in NSW.After all it is the most pressing issue on the plate in NSW at present.
The prize money for provincial races in NSW is the lowest of all states except S.A. at present so I think it's time we all started vocalising our concerns to Ministers.
