at what age would someone normally send there pups off for schooling and generally how long would they need to spend there.
where would you recommend in or around the limerick area and a rough idea of costs per week/month.
i have two pups at 11months and want to give them the best possible start, after viewing martin tuckers you-tube video i'm seriously considering sending them for schooling but hopefully a bit closer to home.
too young yet wait another two months at least longer if they are dogs try dinny cunningham in limerick

We kennel up at 12 months and introduce over the next 3 weeks to the lead and the gallop. Then give them about 3 runs behind the drag before bringing them to the track for a couple of handslips up near the bend. 3rd handslip I let them off in pairs, we time them from a mark, it`s only a rough guide, but it tells you a lot about the dogs abilty.
Then it`s back home for a run or two from our traps and then back to Longford for a full trial. I normally put them in pairs at this stage to get them coming out better. If they break 18.90 they are ready for qualifying.
They are still very green, but the basics are done and it gives the next person plenty left to find with them. Depending on the dog and his size, it`s better to give them a bit more time at this stage before qualifying them.
I will only give them sprints and only once a week, so as to avoid sore metacarpels. We also BONE RADIAL the dogs 3 days on and 3 days off once they come in and touch wood we have had only a few problems in this department over the last 3 years.
A lot is common sense and not too rush the dog over these 6-10 weeks. We don`t work them hard, but let them find improvement themselves and this way you see how much they are improving for each visit.
gordon, i was just saying how we were doing it with ours. everyone has there own ways and go on personal experiences. Good luck with your little fellas.
cheers

how are you john.yes there coming on great.haven't named them yet.i did have names picked but when i enquired i found out the prefix was owned buy an ex neighbour of mine so that put a spanner in the works but i will be doing it in the next few weeks.
took them to an open coursing event just to see how'd they react to what was going on.i was really pleased.they were pulling the hand off me and even had an offer from a lad there for one of the pups but wasn't selling,no way,the kids would have a stroke.
i know i told you i would put up some up to date photo's of them in my profile but really haven't had a chance to sort out a few but ill do it this weekend as i'm off work.
as for racing them,i haven't a clue at what age they'll be going but hopefully around early 2009,maybe even sooner,it all depends.
had them weighed recently,73lb and 68lb.the big lad rules the kennel and feeding bowl so i've started to feed them individually.but thats my only concern with them.there great with strangers and there pretty quite to.
if you give me your email address i'll send you a few photos asap if not just check my profile in a couple of days.
