Currently at the Greyhound Adoption Program (Victoria) we are in very short supply of greyhounds that are suitable for homes with cats - of the nearly 100 greyhounds we have with us, only three are cat tolerant.

We find that, as a rule, greyhounds that don't break in well (ie won't chase) are most likely to be OK with cats. If you have such a dog, or see one next time you're at a break in or trial track, please think of us. We have allocated two weeks in March (weeks starting 14th and 21st) for the non-chasers and can take your dog then, even if it is not currently on our waiting list.

Entry requirements for GAP are that the dog must have a current C5 vaccination at the time of hand over to our Program, and there is a $100 entry fee. We can only take Victorian owned or bred dogs.

If you could spread the word that we are keen to have these dogs it would be greatly appreciated! Our phone number is 03 5799 0166 or email [email protected]

Kind regards
Larissa Darragh

You should get good Juan into the program. Not sure if he is cat friendly.

Punters have every right to question stewards as to how they can let him run and have money put on him.

How many more times you want to see it.

GAP is a JOKE the GRV is a Circus full of Clowns ...

Why don't you ask the Groups who receive no funding at all from the GRV they have a heap of Greyhounds waiting to be fostered or rehomed many are cat friendly but they failed the lame ass GAP test ...

Why dont GAP liaise with all of the other groups that care for GRV bred dogs ...

I would not hand a Greyhound over to GAP again because GAP dont give a shit about the greyhounds that fail GAP ...GAP is a failure not a success.....

GAP dont give a shit about the failures .

Alan Clayton the biggest Clown in History is manipulating GAPS figures

The GRV and GAP manipulate the figures to try and show case what a wonderful job both GAP and the GRV are doing for these VICBRED Greyhounds ...

What happens to the GREYHOUNDS who fail GAP they end up at Groups around Australia who received not one cent of any kind of GRV support or funding ...

If we are to have a future we must do a hell of a lot better with support for all Greyhound rehoming Groups IMO ...

OUR GREYHOUNDS DESERVE SO MUCH MORE .....

PS....
GAP and the GRV only use Greyhound Data when they see fit ..
They have not shared a single post story or article in 8 years from any of Greyhound Data's Social Media platforms ....

If a Greyhound is Victorian Bred then it must receive support for desexing and Dental care regardless of where that Greyhound ends up it must be 100 percent for the Greyhound not the group its that simple.

If our retired Greyhounds find a loving happy caring home for life then that is what we all should achieve and look for regardless of who or what you support in life.

Our Greyhounds deserve so much more support and lets face it we have been spending millions on welfare for years but we are still failing so many Greyhounds this should not happen anymore.

Regardless if u are Anti or PRO we all should support every GRV bred Greyhound and all Groups desexing and dental costs should be 100 percent covered by the GRV why should only 2 Groups receive funding when there is at least 6 Groups who rehome in Victoria with no funding at all to cover the basic desexing and dental care ...

I have again waffled on and many will not agree with me but please look at the bigger picture because every Greyhound born deserve a happy loving life ...

I tend to agree andrew his runs should not be accepted and his non chasing style is bad
I recall j mc saying he slipped him at wpk one time n the dog run back to him so he slipped him again

Wayne - he has no trainer right now under Fasttrack.. why post it on a decade old posting? Seems cheap. Start a new thread FFS if this is about have a go at Good Juan. Dog can't talk for itself and I have no affiliation with dog or connections. Just why pick a GAP thread from a decade ago, thatś got me f*cked.

Yeah no worries - maybe Andrew will tell us how come this message thread appeared 10 years after its initial posting. Like I said - no idea why. I started going on about the cat friendly 100$ fee thing until I realised how its even appearing again.

As for Good Juan - well whatevs. I know many that would love a 53k prizemoney non-chaser/cat etc. Then again I know many people that take on Dyna Double One dogs so hey.. beauty is in the eye of the beholder anyway. ;)

Not contributing anymore to this thread anyway - I found bringing up Good Juan on a decade old GAP message thread fascinating.

Feel for GJ's owners, loved seeing him win an angle a couple of weeks ago and hope he turns that uncapped engine and potential into more wins. He is great to watch but quite obviously will never be a betting propistion.

Jason I put it on this site as I searched good Juan (nothing listed and was not going to start a thread on the dog with this as the first thread on him). I also searched non chasers thinking there was a topic that I could make a point. There were a couple but I felt the previous conversation on them to be completely inappropriate to bring up again as those conversations should be left well in the past.

So I chose this not thinking too much about it being an issue and making the point.

The point is not about good Juans ability. I have never questioned that.

My whole point is that the stewards need to protect the industry which relies on punters to raise money which is rebated back to the industry.

Good Juan holds a significant amount of money every tine he runs. His last run he held just under half the money held on the race. He did not chase a yard. I watched the race wanting to see what he would run in a small field thinking wow he could fly.

But again, as is his ways, he failed to chase.

Do you think it is a good thing for the industry that dogs who consistently dont chase (and sometimes do for a bit) are put in races for punters to bet on? I dont. Bad for reputation and terrible for punters sitting in pubs etc who need to continue to bet on dogs.

Do you think stewards need to protect the industry and its reputation by putting these dogs on notice? I do.

Happy to put on another thread suggest please? Not starting good Juan thread .... who could forget that amazing run at Wenty. But thats the dog. Check his form.

Hi Andrew,

Yeah glad you took my comments in good faith as was baffled about the posting and context.

As for old GJ - yeah mostly agree with your observations. Tons of dogs like that out there - very hit or miss. I call that "goldilocks syndrome"- everything has to be just right and then they perform - a week later they barely chase.

I will only answer specifically this you posted as it's a great question...

You asked:

"Do you think it is a good thing for the industry that dogs who consistently dont chase (and sometimes do for a bit) are put in races for punters to bet on? I dont. Bad for reputation and terrible for punters sitting in pubs etc who need to continue to bet on dogs."

I reply:

That's punting. If anything were assured in life then you'd have backed Australia to beat India in the test at the Gabba on form. That's not how real life works especially with animals. And that's all I have to say about it. Any dog can win on its day despite the odds and some dogs like GJ pick their days selectively. If punters haven't worked that about him already god help them.
